Fenwick's idea is funny in its own right, but this:

is a bad sort of cliche. The lost orders weren't actually that important to the running of the battle. Certainly not enough so for their lack to lead to the AoP being wiped out. They had strategic considerations -- in fact the battle probably wouldn't have happened at Antietam without them -- but in no way did they have bearing on Mac's battlefield decisions.

In fact, the one major effect they had was cause him to worry about a trap and thus only commit a third of his force against Lee's ANV. If he isn't as worried about a trap without the captured orders he may be more willing to use his full numerical advantage.
