The invading tribes of the western roman empire was given full citizenship

Now, if all of the tribes like the franks, goths, Osthogoths and etc was given a full roman citzenship near the end of the western empire, which means every one of the king has the power to seize the throne of the western roman emperor for himself, would we see a continutation of the western roman empire in a very different form?

All the kings will be busy attacking each other for the throne of the roman emperor, thus the WRE can last for a much longer time.

If the turn-over rate amongst Emperors becomes too high some kings may just start taking over their immediate surrounding territories as in OTL.

what would need to occur is tribe leader, and king and such, meets in Rome to iron out who would be the next emperor. or it could become an oligarchy every king rules and rules in defense of his land. each province trades within the others, and comes to the aid of any other in the even of attacks from outside powers.

Charlemagne used the regalia and dress of the WRE. HRE was also an attempt to continue the tradition. Even in Norse areas you'd find chess pieces with the king dressed in a roman toga.

Yes we would!

If you by your last sentence mean that the WRE - ie. the Roman one could last longer with the roman barbarians infighting, probably not. Rome itself would be the great prize.

As a offical political entity, we can say that even if all the barbarian kings fight among each other, as long as they are roman citzens, it will be counted as a civil war as compared to saying the roman empire has ended.

Correct me if I am wrong but, doesn't the children of roman citizens get citzenship as well?

This may create sceanrio where the kings will actually proclaim themselves roman emperors, and ensure a warring states period in western europe, where everyone is willingly to engage in a all out all to destroy each other.

And this increase the possiblity of one single proclaimed western roman emperor being able to reunite WRE, like Qin shi Huang.

That means even if Charlemagne rise to power with the support of the pope, he will still have to content with other emperors until a single emperor is left.

I don't know if children of Roman citizens got citizenship automatically.
I do follow your line, I was just trying to say that the IDEA of WRE was quite lively and was carried on by Charlemagne et al. ;)

The thing is, most people don't recongise the holy roman empire as a roman one at all...

And it is possible that if the barbarian kings have the chance to recieve the title of the roman emperor, they might ensure an european period where it consist of warring centralised states.

Probably not - but I guess that was the perception of the time of it.

Agree with you on this as already written - only I'm not sure if this is going to be a Chinese "Warring states" period as you seem to want. Not when the Huns makes an appearance and push Goths, Burgundians and other large nations across the Limes. Before that - probably yes. And wasn't the envy and perception of Rome the reason for peoples like Stilicho and the like (apart from the gold and other riches, privileges etc.) to fight to keep it above the waters???
