The influence of a single voice

Question One: I got a hard one for you guys. I don’t much like the fellow but my wife rather enjoys his music and was listening to one of his records the other day. Which is what prompted me to ask myself - What, if any, significance would Elvis have had on music today had he lived?

Any thoughts?

Question Two: Pick your favorite country. Is there a figure in the last 30 years that if removed from history would greatly alter the present day landscape (politically, culturally, or both) of your chosen country (or the world).

Any thoughts?

Well, the dreadful "3000 Miles To Graceland" movie never gets made
Regardless though, Elvis by the late 1970s was quickly passing into irrelevance, and his death probably served much to reignite his posthumous popularity. He probably would have been one of those artists that most people have a vague recollection of doing "something" worthwhile long time ago that doesn't let them forget him completely, but not able to draw more than nostalgia crowds.

That is, unless he somehow reinvented himself to make himself relevant again. Can you imagine Elvis Presley with puffy hair, leathers and spikes riding on stage on a Harley singing the lyrics that could have been on any of Judas Priest's early-80s albums? Or, Elvis singing "Every Rose Has Its Thorn"? Or, "Cherry Pie"? To be honest, the thought is horrifying.

WI Elvis dies in the late 50s (I don't know, killed by a neo-Nazi radioactive terrorist in Germany? Use your imagination :D ) and Buddy Holly lives?

Elvis as Des O'Connor, not that I'm knocking Des considering his age, his wife and his new kids

why not remove Richard Nixon? No southern strategy means a different pattern for the GOP to follow to gain dominance.

He'd be somewhat like Paul McCartney exceot broader and maybe more popular. He did rock but he also did a lot of country and a lot of movies.
Always liked his "Kissing Cousins" movie a bunch of Army guys show up at a mountain community with lots of hot chicks but few guys, bunch of army guys come down the mountain with hot wives.

I think Elvis would have gone into semi-retirement for a few years, until the time Las Vegas tries to get more family friendly. He would go in with one of the casinos, and they would give him an "Elvis Room", and he would probably hold the same status that Wayne Newton holds today. Or he would go to Branson, MS, and build a theatre, which causes the four lane highway to be built sooner. Branson would now be the biggest tourist attraction in the Continental US, even outstripping Walt Disney Land & DisneyWorld.

Martin Luther King Jr: I think by removing him the Civil Rights movement well first stagger, and then turn violent.

I suspect one could pick Churchill for the UK

One might also pick Thatcher

Chances are that if Trudeau doesn't come into play, either Quebec leaves, or things get really violent. And if there's no Trudeau, he won't start the NEP and alienate the west, so the west will elect a lot more liberals in the years to come. Or if there's no Mulroney, no GST, which means the Conservative party won't commit suicide, which means no Reform Party, and later no Alliance party, and no "new Conservative party".

My fav country is Canada so I think Taking Pierre Trudeau out would change Canada massively. No multiculturalis officially no bilingualism and less liberal country in general.

Or another person would be John Diefenbaker without him the US would never have gotten to the moon most US fighters would be very different and Canada would have a thriving aerospace industry

I think if Bush (the younger) were removed from history, things would be DRASTICALLY different. [In my opinion: drastically better.]
