The Industrial Bear.

With a PoD after the congress of Vienna what would Russia and the world look like if Russia by no later than 1900 had the same industrial productivity per person as Germany.

Bonus points for scenarios where Russia conquers mother winter and colonises Siberia to the same extent and the USA did the north western states. And estimation on the population of a industrialised Russia.

I'd expect Russia to be far more powerful, but how is it going to get to the same level of productivity as Germany by 1900?

...huh?

Russia never colonised Siberia to its full extent so I was wondering If it could if it had industrialised.

Russia did industrialize. It's the productivity per person thing that I'm interested in, because that sounds like a massive improvement over OTL.

Yes, maybe even an impossible improvement, given Russia's population in 1900 (and that's not even counting the massive increase that would result from industrialization).

I think if Russia has the productivity per person as Germany, europe would be flooded with cheap goods just like after the napoleonic wars with Britain, the USA after ww2 and now with china. The economics would favour the Russians as they had the labour, funding and resources but unlike their western counterparts in the otl they didn't have the the expertise and skilled labour, nor were they willing to develop their domestic consumption as they were geared to foreign markets, which may lead to trade wars as other nations would take protective measures as what happened in he otl with cheap Russian grain.

It's more plausible to shoot for a Russia whose raw output is greater than Germany's by 1900. Equal per person productivity with a post-Congress of Vienna PoD is not happening and would be a ridiculously high level of industrialization. I'm not sure if even Stalin's industrialization programs ever pulled that off.

Why not Russia had inexpensive labour, resources and funding it had the potential to be the china of the time but unlike the Chinese now Russia never really had a sustained pushed until te 1880s and by then it's was behind the ret of Europe. Hell Spain was more producible per person in the 1880s.

Russia becoming a leading industrial power would also effect the alliance system of Europe since Russia will be a very big threat I the other European powers, so we may see more British investment in the Ottomans in order to try and stop Russia power projecting in the mediteranean sea.

I do not know how important it would be, but Imo the factor of space and education would also play a massive role in the developemant of Russia.

I think the availeble space for expansion was a factor that lessend the preasure for urbanisation. So more small scale enterprises instead of a bigger concentration of labour, knowlage and capital.
Following that thought is the availebility of labour in the cities in the face of enough room to expand in "conventional" fashion.

As to the educaton aspect, I do not truely know how the situation was, but Imo the bottom line was lower then in Germany.

Well, let's just start with the fact the serfs werent freed from the land until 1861. Serfdom, like slavery doesnt really do well with economic development. See the Confederacy...

What if Russia avoids selling Alaska and makes greater use of it. As I understand it was mainly used for the fur trapping industry by Russians. When William Seward planned its purchase for the US he had in mind to make use of its likely supply of timber, fish, and other natural resources. If Russia businesses try this it will likely increase Russia's GDP. As well it may likely lead to a faster discovery of Alaska's mineral and oil deposits and an earlier Klondike gold rush. IMHO this would further increase Alaska's working population and the Russian economy.
