From what I can tell there was very limited contract between the Roman Empire and the Chinese Empire. What if a group of Roman merchant families setup a trading house in a major Chinese port? What if as part of that effort they sent their sons on a tour of China to determine what products other than silk the Chinese could offer in trade? Also, the sons would be looking for technology that merchant families could send back to Rome for the families profit. Finally, the sons would try to determine what things China needed that Roman had in abundance.

What would the impact be on the Roman Empire as these merchant families sent back information on Chinese technology, seeds of plants such soybeans, and increased demand for Roman commodities?

I did a search and did not see any really discussion on this. If there is already a discussion on this, please let me know how to find it.

Thank you
