The impact had they gone with the harshest conditions possible on German following WW1?

Many blame the strictness or harshness of the treaty of Versailles for leading to WW2 but what if the conditions were even harsher? Maybe going by the most hardliner vengeful french?

Could it really have resulted in anything worse than what really happened?

The OTL German economy collapsed in 1923. Harsher conditions could accelerate that collapse; could it lead to some level of French occupation followed by a war in the twenties? What might Britain say? Will the Americans open their eyes and intervene? There is a good chance that Hitler might be butterflied out of power and any scenario with that outcome could not be worse than OTL. That could lead to a settled Europe before Japan makes its imperial move. What about the Soviets if Lenin is still alive?
