Shahanshah of Āryānam Silenced!
- Outrage in Āryānam
- World leaders divided on blame
- Trinovantes targeted
Shahanshah Sohrab IV of Āryānam was assassinated by a military contractor in his motorcar on the way to his home-in exile situated in Shambala, yesterday. He was assassinated by means of suicide bombing at the age of 40. His death has signalled outrage in Shambala and civil disorder in his homeland of Āryānam where an unofficial period of mourning amongst the Buddhist population of the nation with strict censorship on behalf of the Junta led by his uncle, President Rostam.
The news of his assassination has garnered immediate response from the international concert with fears of conflict escalating amongst the already tense powers. Central to these meetings will be a discussion on the role and accountability of nations for their mercenary companys amongst both condemnations and condolences. The International Concert will be held in China, much to the protestation of the Middle-Asian alliance and questions of its neutrality in these talks is likely to be a talking point amongst the nations of the alliance.
The Inquest can now confirm that the assassination was performed by the Trinovantes mercenary company of Gwillym’s Guard which was paid for by the Rostam regime itself. Sohrab IV had been a divisive figure in Āryānam for favouring and endorsing the minority Buddhist population of the country, a decision which upon his public conversion to the Buddhist faith spurred a popular uprising amongst the Mazdaian population led by his uncle Rostam. Although Buddhists are more of a minority than ever in Āryānam, the Junta faces constant difficulties from legitimist rebels who until yesterday rallied around their king in exile.
Reports state that the assassin from Gwillym’s Guard, 52 year old Connia Pryce, faced his death with a calm and fearless repose earning much respect back home amongst house Trinovantes, most noble banner of Iceni. Although the condemnation of Shambala to our kingdom is likely to hurt trade, the royal family has petitioned Yns Môn to officially instate Connia Pryce as a Sage in accordance with tradition. Celebrations are likely to occur on Gwillym’s day to celebrate both the company and name of Stoic Connia…

Good morning, afternoon, evening and night readers of the Inquest. I humbly present to you, from our Monarch’s Iceni Inquest, a new and innovative column. In celebration of our status as the most read newspaper amongst respectable kingdoms of the Isle and a distribution spreading far into even Outer Mongolia and Greater Phoenicia, we have decided to follow the example of Chinese papers in presenting to you an inquiry column. For our readers who are unfamiliar with such a format, its function is as follows: any reader through use of post may submit any question to The Inquest (providing it is both proper and honourable) and we shall endeavour to publish both your questions and an official response every week in our publications. Not all questions and answers shall be published, but in an attempt to further open up our holy island to those not blessed with familiarity of it; I shall personally endeavour to write to those letters which could not reasonably be published.
May the Mother, Father and Sages bless you.
OOC: So. I was out of the country recently and have been reading by the beach a fantastic tl by Thande called The Unreformed Kingdom (https://www.alternatehistory.com/Discussion/showthread.php?t=363883 for anyone who has somehow not read it). This combined with a newspaper article in Bram Stokers “Dracula” (don’t read too much into that
) gave me the idea to do a tl purely from the perspective of a small time semi-local (and as you may guess, horribly biased) newspaper in a world radically different from our own.
I don’t want to give too much away but as you may be able to tell from a few clues, this is NOT a Euro-centric world and many concepts and ideas from a european tradition of philosophy are not as globally dominant. Furthermore, whilst I am trying to use appropriate names and terms from multiple languages to give clues in regards to what is happening, please don’t take the use of foreign words too far beyond their suggestion. Examples of this include “Aryanum” which is the earliest name used for Iran/Persia is a super old term for the country which realistically would not have survived to the modern day but IS in use in this tl. This is to give flavour to the fact that the traditions of the Avesta are still strong in the country whilst also believing it to be impossible to properly predict how an Iranian language would have evolved under completely different circumstances.
As should hopefully be clear, feel free to ask any questions, all of which shall be responded to either in letter form or “published” in the next entry of the Iceni Inquest: By far the best newspaper in all the civilised world
