The History of Raymond the Brave Heart of Aquitaine
In 1137, Duke William X set out from Poitiers to Bordeaux, taking his daughters with him. In Bordeaux, he left Eleanor and Petronilla in the charge of the Archbishop of Bordeaux who could be entrusted with the safety of the Duke's daughters. The Duke then set out for the Shrine of Saint James of Compostela in North-western Spain, in the company of other pilgrims; however, on 9th April (Good Friday) 1137 he was stricken with sickness, probably food poisoning. He died that evening, having bequeathed Aquitaine to his fifteen-year-old daughter, Eleanor. On his deathbed, he expressed his wish to have King Louis VI of France as protector of Eleanor, and to charge him with finding her a suitable husband. Eleanor escaped from the Archibishop in order to not to marry the King of France she escapes and reaches Barcelona and marries Raymond Berenguer IV the Count of Barcelona.
Eleanor of Aquitaine hid and wanted protection and found love on Raymond Berenguer IV in Barcelona where in they got married in June 1137, Eleanor initially married Raymond Berenguer for protection but she learned to love him and later on the two have a daughter is born named Marie(Maria) whom they sent to Geoffrey Plantagenet for protection and they go to Aquitaine and go to france make a tribute, Louis VI is married to Marie of Blois, the daughter of Stephen of Blois, Louis VI is shocked he thought that Eleanor had disappeared completely and that she is married.
Louis VI has two sons from Marie of Blois named Louis and Henry.
The Baux Faction in Provence suffer a great defeat and Alfonso Jordan of Toulouse was defeated by the forces of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Raymond Berenguer IV, Alfonso dies.
Eleanor of Aquitaine and Raymond of Aquitaine joins the second crusade and leaves their Empire to Berenguer Ramon who marries the daughter and heir of the Baux Faction, the marriage unfortunately produced only a daughter named Joanna who later marries Henry the second son of Louis VI, all of the children of Raymond and Eleanor at this time are girls named Maria(Who was bethroted and later married to Henry Plantagenet), Aelith and Lucia.
Because of the Huge power he got he declares himself the King of Aquitaine or Raymond the Great the King of Aquitaine or Raimon lo Grand, Rei d’ Aquitania with his brother, Berenguer Raymond as his vassal who rules over Gevaudan, Vivares, Carlat, Montpellier and Provence.
