It was widely reported last week on the 20th annsivery of the tragic death of 96 Liverpool fans at the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Notts Forest at Hillsborough, Sheffield, that it had almost happended eight years before at the 1981 semi-final between Tottenham and Wolves. Several Tottenham fans where injured in a crush on those same terraces but it was not reported at the time, and a major crush was just prevented.
From a football and social point of view he would have changed the course of football in this country. Of course Tottenham and not Liverpool would be linked to the Hillsborough.
Also please do not take this post as an attack on those Liverpool fans that dies, it isn't I was 14 when it happened the same age of many of the fans that died that day. I am looking at this purely from the changes such a event would have had on the game in 1981, and what changes would have happended.
