The Gregorian Calendar introduced

In 1582 the Gregorian Calendar was introduced.
At first only Catholic countries adopted it. Why only Catholic countries?

Because it was introduced by the Pope. And non-Catholics believed by using a papist calender Satan would kidnap you through the folds of time and devour your soul.

Or something like that.

The Gregorian calendar was the Church's attempt to keep the date of Easter consistent with the lunar cycle. Given that, well, Protestant countries could hardly give a damn about when the Catholic Church celebrated Easter...

Well, consider the power of the Roman Catholic Church of that time, especially the influence of the Pope and his leadership.

The Gregorian Calendar was first adopted in Italy, Poland, Portugal, and Spain in 1582.
New rules were set to determine the date of Easter.

Orthodox people wouldn't adopt a papist invention,
neither would the protestants.....
As long as the non-catholic people are religious enough the calendar's adoption is going to be delayed.....

I think there was some kind of anti-Catholic propaganda about pope trying to steal days (i.e shorten lives) of people.
