Considering most of the great European nations were out to grab as much land as possible, throughout the 19th century, it seems odd that little interest was taken in the Seventh Continent - Antarctica. Although it is a harsh place to live in, that hasn’t stopped people from settling in similar habitats in the past.
So which nations could have set up some meaningful colonies, or otherwise in the 19th century, which may have developed somewhat over the years, to emerge a century or so later as a country (or countries) in its own right?
