The Gods Of Israel

As you may or may not know, many historians theorize that Judaism was originally polytheistic, or at least henotheistic, and that it only became monotheistic after the Babylonian Captivity. My question is, what if they never stopped?, what if the Jews went on worshiping many different gods, up until the time of Jesus, would Christianity, or some form of it, still exist?, and if so, would it still be the dominant religion in the Western World?, would temples to Asherah and Baal be common sights in the 21st century.?

Well, probably. You still had folks worshipping Assur to the 3rd Century or so in Mesopotamia right next store. A Polytheist Israel pretty much butterflies Christianity and Islam. Hopefully it would have similar effects on Zoroastrianism.

If it lasted until 1 AD, Christianity would probably be created, but remain a minor sect. Otherwise, Jesus could become one of the many gods of Israel.
