The German Navy in a Central Powers Victorious TL...

The German problem was not the Mediterranian, is was the North Sea and the access to the Atlantic. This was not prevented by Malta, but by Britain itself.
Control of the Med in WW2 s not a problem but at least for the eastern end is an opportunity. It protects German allies from Galliope type invasions reducing the numbers for coastal garrisons. It also forces Britain merchant ships to take the long passage about Africa so that they take longer to do the same job. It also opens up the opportunity of a seabourne invasion of Egypt.

In CP victorious world, the German navy can use the AuH ports of Trieste, Pola, Split, Cattaro at alii, the Albanian ports of Durres and Vlora, the Bulgarian port of Alexandropolis, all the Ottoman ports in the Levante. This should suffice for the HSF Mediterranian patrol.
But again, Germany's strategic problem is not the Med, it's the North Sea, and the entity blocking egress from the "wet triangle" is Great Britain. So, any navy that deserves its name should invest some thought how to overcome the obstacle. As Britain can not be sunk, it has to be occupied in the next war. And if that isn't possible, it has to be isolated and besieged.

WW2 showed that all Germany needs to do is to occupy Norway to outflank British control of the exits to the Atlantic. Imagine the Bismark chase, but with a task force of a dozen carriers and BBs.

Why should Germany have any interest in alienating those neutrals that had served her well in WW1?

I'd think Norway would serve Germany better as a naval base than as a neutral squeezed by the British blockade.

Good point about Norway. But wouldn't a victorious Germany also want to establish a navel presence in the Pacific?

Hi guys

Firstly let me say high as I have just joined tonight (UK time).

Now to the German Navy. I think the German Navy would have diversified but in a small "c" conservatively i.e. battleships the backbone but with aircraft carriers also present.

If we look at the three great A/C carrier navies of the 1930's i.e. the USA, Japan and GB the battleship was still number one.

S

Sincerely doubt that. The British were very forward thinking regarding naval airpower. At the outbreak of war they did attempt a seaplane attack on Wilhelmshaven. I do consider that the US and Japanese navies are the ones most likely to remain battleship-centric. The Royal Navy is certainly crippled by the formation of the Royal Air Force and then spending cuts post-war, but they were the leaders in carrier design for a few years.

A really victorious germany would regain a good amount of it colonial posessions. If it got back the Caroline Islands it would have Truk which was a major Japanese base in WWII. Rabul could also become an important naval facality.
