What if the future Alexander III of Russia renounces his rights to the Russian throne in 1866 so that he could marry the then-love of his life--Marie Mershensky (sp?)? Indeed, he wanted to do this in our TL but his father prevented him from doing this; thus, let's have Russian Tsar Alexander II agree to this in this TL.

Anyway, what kind of Tsar would Alexander III's younger brother Vladimir be?

If Alexander II was so dead-set against it, a more plausible way would be that Alexander goes behind his father's back to marry her.

Vladimir I would be even worse to Russia as Nicholas II. He was brutal and reactionary man. It is even possible that he gave order to massacre on 1905 in St. Petersburg. Just can imagine what would happen if in TTL Alexander II would be still assassinated. And in OTL Vladimir lived to 1909.

Do you have a source for the 1905-order part, please?
