The Forever War

Joe Haldeman's The Forever War is an alternate future history that essentially Vietnam in Space; diverging sometime in the 1980s with the FTL drive and UN-wank. Given that the story covers over 1,000 years of war and development (time dilation included), how plausible would such a scenario be?

Hard to Say, But I Think Fairly Likely ...

There are a Few Independent, but Allied, Terran Powers; All at War with One Planet!

While The Inhabitants of this Planet have been Driven from Space, they Remain Formidable Opponents, Albeit Inside of their Bombed out Cities ...

As you Say, a VERY Good Representation of Vietnam, IN SPACE!

I guess the point is to show what the prolonged effects an interstellar Vietnam and a social eugenic experiment would have on the very nature of humanity. Needless to say, this Enlightened Man resorted to having "breeder" havens by the time Mandela and co. returned.
