The Football Wars

Also, have the USFL arrange for exhibition games with the CFL. May be kind of hard due to their seasons not happening at exactly the same time but it could work.

That's a little odd....
Basically, the NFL, seeing that traditional advertising is flailing, tries to pull a massive publicity stunt by very publicly sabotaging the field the Generals are to play on. This won't be a good move on their part. It reeks of pettiness and desperation. It will get them in the press, for sure, but said press will be harshly critical.

I'm just trying to figure out what good they think will come of this. It's a like a bad college prank only with no humor at all.

Oh, it is. It is a bunch of panicky owners who have been failed by sub-mediocre ad-men thinking they need to one-up the Gamblers' ticket stunt. They, since they aren't listening to advertising or PR people, choose to pull a stupid, petty stunt.

Man only like 2 years in, and the pettiness and shade has been intense. I assume there's gonna be a point where things are relatively normal between the two, but that probably won't happen for a while now.

I like the potential of giving guys from OTL who should've won more titles that opportunity. *cough* Larry Sanders and Kurt Warner *cough*

The only issue I have is that flooding the field like that, in a clearly intentional way would be hella illegal. Not to mention the expense of fixing it, which they would have to pay because they'd be sued like hell. I could see them maybe flooding the field and claiming it was totally unintentional, but by making it a public stunt like that would put them in a lot of trouble.

OK guys, I'm feeling like I'm getting myself into a rut here. I think I'd like to take a step back and take a break from this for a week or so. I'll come back, I promise, but I need a little time to plan this out. If you have any suggestions, please send them over.

So basically there is no 86 season? I'm not sure that is a hot idea for TTL. OTL they didn't have it because that is when they were going to move to the fall. Have them still play their 86 season in the spring because they agree to not make any major structural changes to the league until after the lawsuit. This means you need to go back and detail the 86 season.

Then after they win the lawsuit they realize they are sitting on a something that has the potential to be great and instead of just hoping for a merger someday, they decide to go all in on a spring football league that will compete with the NFL for players, $$$, and fan interest.

OK, firstly, a retcon. That stuff with the water main? Never happened. Next update soon.
By the way, the NFL does not bother with the World League of American Football (although both leagues are considering overseas outreach). Arena football collapses after one season (thank god).

THE FIRST ANNUAL CAN-AM CUP
The first annual Can-Am cup was played the day before that year's Super Bowl. A sellout crowd came to the Cotton Bowl to see the USFL champion New Jersey Generals beat their CFL counterparts, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, 27-7. Despite the mediocre game contested on the field, there was an air of excitement among both leagues. The USFL revealed plans for expansion, declaring that in 1990, St. Louis and Charlotte would get USFL teams. The future was bright for the CFL and USFL, and the NFL could only sit helpless and cling to the dying hope that the USFL would fail on its own.

Well, NFL don't keep waiting that much, maybe expanding more cities too or expanding the games so fans have more too see.

This pausable a USFL-CFL merger(North America Football league?) it would not be that difficult but still canadies would just be happy that annual game so far.

I dunno. That is a LOT of teams competing. I'm trying to figure out how to make it so there isn't a grotesque glut of football teams.
