I'm confident more than one thread has asked (and probably answered) the Question "What if Mary I Tudor actually had a son by Philip of Spain" but I wondered if there had ever been a thread that contemplated what might have happened had she produced a male heir then died before the youth reached maturity.

It seems likely that King Philip and Parliament would have found themselves in a tug of war over how this Habsburg-Tudor Prince would be raised (with the Lady Elizabeth as an additional complication looking on from the sidelines, assuming she were able to avoid any efforts to "simplify" her) - it might also be reasonable to wonder how the situation might be altered were this child a girl.

Would she be permitted to rule or would she be set aside in favour of the equally female, but thoroughly-English and fully adult Elizabeth? (The fact that King Philip was King in England & Ireland only for the duration of his marriage means his authority dies with Queen Mary, which further complicates a situation presumable best compared to a powder keg).
