The Federation of Australian Nations
Location: The Australian Continent, and many neighbouring islands.
Capital: Newcastle

Established 1950.
Type of Government in 2006: It is a loose Federation of Parliamentary Monarchies. It is a Commonwealth Realm. The Federal Government of the FAN operates in Foreign Relations, Defence, Eternal Trade and relations between the substituent states which are sovereign in all internal affairs. The substituent states have their own reserve militias in case of emergencies. There is a unicamral Council with 3 members from each of the substituent states representing those states. There is a Prime Minister who is chosen from the most dominant political party on the Council. There is a Governor General who represents the British Monarch.

Commonwealth of Australia
This Substituent state take up most of the Continent, and is the most dominant in terms of its population and its economy.
Location: Most of the Continental mainland, most of Tasmania (see individual state entries)

Established 1901
Type of Government in 2006: The same as the OTL Commonwealth of Australia, with obvious exceptions due to the nation being an autonomous part of a nation of autonomous sub-nations.

The States
New England
Location: The New England region of OTL New South Wales, Where the New State would have been if the OTL 1960's referendum had succeeded, minus Newcastle.

Languages: English, Maori and Aborigine Languages [light Maori settlement along the coast prior to the coming of the British]
Established: 1870
Type of Government in 2006: It is a Federation of Municipalities. There are too many to list here. The state government has control over the areas that are shared with the Commonwealth in the CoA Constitution.

New South Wales
Location: Sydney, the Central Coast, Wollongong. The south coast almost to Nowra. Westwards from the Great dividing range to the Darling River, north of the Murrumbidgee

Location: Melbourne, All of OTL Victoria west of Melbourne, the area's to the east of Melbourne up to 75km east of the Yarra, and north of the Great Dividing Range.

Tasmania
Location: Most of the Island of Tasmania, except the northeastern corner, King Island.

South Australia
Location: West of the Victorian Border and south of the Murray, except the Barossa Valley and some area's adjacent to it. North of the Murray to a line intersecting OTL Port Augusta and a point directly east on the Darling River.

Flinders Territory
Location: West of the Darling River and the northern part of the Murray-Darling Basin, east of the Nullabor Plain, south of the Simpson Desert and north of South Australia and the Great Australian Bight

Location: North of New England and the Flinders Territory, East of The Central Australian Territory and another substituent state of the FAN along a border that runs approximately where the OTL border between the Northern Territory and Queensland is, South of Torres Straight, West of some French derived substituent states of the FAN along the Great Barrier Reef coast and the Pacific.

Neavoux Caledonie Grande
Location: East of Queensland along the Great Dividing Range, north of another French derived substituent state with the border just south of OTL Mackay. It extends up to OTL Cairns. Includes New Caledonia.
