(This is something I've wanted to try for awhile, and I really you guys like it. It will be told from the viewpoint of a little guy, so... well, PODs will be explained later.:p Please review.)

War had been looming on the horizon, on everyone's lips. To the east, a Russian Empire lay, having licked its wounds from its civil war. It recently went on a conquering spree in Asia, in vengeance against Japan for a long ago slight. To the South, a Fascist Italy stirred, wanting what it didn't get in the Great War. Finally, to the West lay the capitalist countries, like the US, UK, and France, which feared our revolution like it was a disease.

All because of our Sparticist Revolt. All because the world won't tolerate our existence, and treat us like a Nightmare they wished didn't exist. Why else would they give so much aid to Fascist Italy, and not lift a finger when Russia seized back Finland? Poland is the only thing between us and them, but Poland even hates us, despite our assurances.

So that's what dominated everyone's minds, the upcoming war. All it would take is either Russia deciding to take back Poland, or Italy to finally launch the offensive they wanted to. The only reason France and the UK haven't invaded already was because of the need to rebuild. Now, they'll probably just join in with the Italians once they invade.

Of course, now they have jealousy to add to their reasons for hatred. Our economy didn't suffer from the Great Depression, while theirs have been virtually destroyed by it. Do they fear a second Communist Revolution occurring? They have themselves to blame for that, as we haven't been spreading it intentionally, through force or otherwise. We have far too many internal issues to focus upon.

It's the year 1936, and dark times lie ahead. But, we're getting ready. I've already told my parents about my want to join the Armored Corps, and they've been... mixed. My father is okay with it, but my mother remains against it. There's something she isn't telling me, as she seems almost irrationally against it at times, in a way unlike her. Something before...?
