The Fate of Rome. . .

So as we all know, the Roman Empire collapsed under the weight of its own bureaucracy, its military instability (the fact that soldiers were loyal to generals, not emperors) and Imperial overstretch. This was al brought on by the numerous barbarian invasions of the 5th century AD which saw the Roman military stretched to breaking point and the system finally buckle under its own weight.
Now, China had many of those same circumstances, so could something similar happen there? Not necessarily a Mongol attack a la Genghis Khan in the 11 century, but maybe a Tibetan, Uighur or Manchurian etc. attack that sees some dynasty on its way out (maybe the Han?) which sees large parts of 'China' (ie regions controlled by the ruling Dyasty) fall to these invaders.

Would we see a balkanised China like medieval Europe, just with highly advanced technology (cast iron, gunpowder to an extent, efficient bureaucracies etc. the list goes on and on and on) as warring states compete for the Mandate of Heaven? Could we have this divion last or is China destined by its culture (Confucianism, the Mandate of Heaven etc. its perceived cultural uiqueness and superiority) to become a united state as happens in OTL throughout history.
We see Chinese Dynasties colapes every 2-3 hundred years or so, well could these divisions last?
