This is a rather abstract and general question, but howcome Denmark didn't turn out better than it dit?
What I'm thinking of is that with holdings on Iceland they were in a great place to start colonize northern america much like the french did. But none were send there (except for to Greenland perhaps, froozen steps, yay).
And being in a union with Sweden and Norway you would like to say the north was secured. You should perhaps even be able to expand south reclaiming much of those german shores they controlled during the 13th century under Valdemar the great. But that ended in failure.
And having the sound secured and tolled they should be able to grow rich to expand in before mentioned America or other places. But where those money went is a mystery to me. Party and fashion animals like spanish style?
A common explanation I hear is that their kings were crappy. Don't know how much power they held or if this description is true, but should't still be able to run a descent government?
So any answers on why Denmark failed and answers on what they potentially could be under other circumstances would be greaty appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
oh and so you don't think im trolling
