The Failure of the Angevins..

Just an idea but it goes something like this...

Henry II refuses to allow himself to be flogged by the monks of Canterbury and to prostrate himself before Becket's tomb in early 1171.

A Scottish army led by William the Lion defeats an English army forcing Henry to abandon his plans to invade Ireland and cede Northumbria back to William.

The fractious sons of Henry decide the time is right to rise against their father and civil war breaks out. The decisive battle sees Henry's army defeated and the king captured.

His son, Henry, takes over but it's not long before he faces revolts from his brothers Richard, Geoffrey and John.

So, after a brief period of stability under Henry II, England is once again plunged into a civil war threatening to be as bloody and protracted as the struggle between Stephen and Matilda a generation earlier..

Any thoughts ?
