The entirety of the German leadership is purged after the July 20 Plot, now what?

OTL after the failed July 20 Plot thousands were arrested and killed, some of them because their name was found on the plans for the new government or they were mentioned in some documents found to belong to the conspirators. For example, Speer was only spared because some documents explicitly stated he had not been approached yet.

What if the plotters preventing a possible failure and foreseeing Hitler's reaction, prepare a contingency plan as a last "fuck you" to the Nazi regime where they falsely accuse with lots of documentation mentioning the participation of every single nazi leader?

Goebbels, Speer, Himmler, Goering, Heydrich, Eichmann, Bormann, every nazi loyalist officer, everyone they can plausibly implicate gets implicated.

What would be the result of this? Could we see Nazi Germany implode, get into a civil war or a subsequent successful coup on Hitler?

Minor point of order, but Heydrich's been dead for two years by the time of the 1944 July 20th plot, so trying to frame him would be redundant.

Now, with that pedantry aside, I imagine that even as far gone as Hitler was by '44, he'd figure that at least some of those names are bogus frame attempts. Just to use one specific example: it wouldn't make sense for Goebbels to be a co-conspirator when the Valkyrie plotters tried to have him arrested during the coup.

So stuff like that could lead Hitler to "vetting" the list based on such contradictions. Further examples would be the statement they released as their cover story were blaming the Nazis party for the assassination (which rules out party guys like Bormann) and clearly attempting to make the Waffen-SS subordinate to the Army in their orders (which rules out Himmler) and stuff like that. It probably does mean a couple more guys do meet the axe then they did historically, especially if they start naming certain generals who had argued with Hitler in the recent past (Rundstedt, Guderian, and probably some others)...

Why not including Hitler in the list?

Would that make much of a difference? By July ‘44 Germany’s pooch is well and truly screwed, would a few less Heer Generals change Germany’s options? I imagine they’d be replaced by SS Generals almost immediately, but they hardly have their paper strength to work with, so it’s unlikely to result in a battlefield miracle.

And where did I suggest that would in anyway improve Germany's odds or change the outcome? At most, one might make an argument that getting some of the last remaining professional senior commanders left in the Heer executed and replaced by Nazi toadies who execute Hitler's insane operational orders even more faithfully then the historical bunch did may cause Germany to lose the war slightly faster (saving some several hundred thousands of lives that were otherwise lost in the process), but otherwise I obviously don't see it making in difference in terms of the final results...

Implicating Hitler in a plot to assassinate Hitler to Hitler is a rather obviously self-defeating proposition.

I never meant to imply you did. I was merely asking what you think the effect would be, apologies.

Fair enough. The WAllied death toll might be lower, but I think there’d be a higher casualty rate on the German side, owing to the insane nature of hitler’s final plans.
