The English Hapsburgs

The more I think about this TL I see it more a Hispawank than a Britwank. The English are going to suffer from internal problems catholics versus protestants, they will have to put down rebellions from protestant scottish in the north, they will be more involved in the continent. More wars in France means less resources to the fleet and more to the army, funding garrisons paying armies...

The Spanish are less pressed by the English (a catholic nation ITTL with its own problems) and the Ottomans (with a surviving Hungary), they can have better supplies in Flanders by sea...

Just a point: make sure it's clear that the protestants are in the minority in England. IOTL, the Reformation was a top-down process motivated by political desires rather than a bottom-up one based on religion.

Well, yeah. Any TL which sees English Hapsburgs is essentially going to glorify Spain at least for the first few generations as the Hapsburg Empire very much concentrated on Spanish foreign policy until Spain declined and the Austrian branch took supremacy around the 1640 mark.

Is it any unwritten law that Spain has to decline around 1640 and the austrian branch of the Hapsburgs to take the lead?

A Spain with the advantages of this scenario is going to put down the rebellion in the Netherlands quite easily, probably giving some sort of authonomy. France and England would be busy fighting each other in France and the Ottomans would be busy in Hungary. The Spanish kings would not be badly pressed to kill the young banking system in Spain and not feeling threatened the Moriscos would remain and some sort of tolerance could be granted in Flanders. No independent Netherlands mean no dutch colonial ambitions, the portuguese Empire would not be harassed and Portugal would remain united to Spain probably longer enough to make a permanent Union.

The dinasty would eventually die out (due to inbreeding) and the throne would be offered to an Austrian or English cousin...

Nice to see a revival of interest in this TL, unfortunately I probably will not be writing on it for a while. I do plan to continue it; I have quite a few notes and plans on where I want to take it. When I do continue it, it will probably be in a new thread and in a different format. But before I take on this ambitious project, I have decided to work on another TL on a historical period and continent I am more familiar with. The problem on this TL was that I have very little info for the next 150 years; the plan was to continue the date-by-date format for a few decades and then jump into the world I’ve created in more detail.
So as I said I will continue but probably not until January maybe later. In the meanwhile check out my new TL, which hopefully you will like. But hopefully the discussion here can continue.
And I agree with Condotierro there is no written law that Spain has to decline in the mid 1600s. Or that Catholicism cannot bring the Enlightenment. Sure it will be heavily delayed but it will happen at some point. Though it might be in a radically different way.
