The engagement of King Ludwig II

On January 1, 1867, the engagement of King Ludwig II of Bavaria and Princess Sophie Charlotte of Bavaria was officially announced.
The wedding was set for August 25, 1867.
Princess Sophie Charlotte, the daughter of Duke Maximilian Joseph and Ludovika, was a sister of Empress Elisabeth of Austria.
However the wedding did not occur.

Suppose that on August 25, 1867 Ludwig II marries Sophie Charlotte.
With Sophie Charlotte as his wife and Queen of Bavaria, how does this make a difference for Ludwig?

The Bavarians warmly welcomed their future Queen.
Ludwig professed his love for Sophie and she for him.
A new state wedding coach was ordered and a boudoir was constructed for Sophie.
The couple exchanged correspondence of the most affectionate kind.

Well first off, you will have to have a PoD where King Lugwig II's strong homosexual desires, are either removed fully or have them softened enough to be atleast bisexual.

What I would have loved to have seen was King Ludwig II engagement to Archduke Ludwig Viktor of Austria, the first official homosexual marriage between two royals.
As homosexuality had not been punishable in Bavaria since 1813.

Cheeky. And I love it. Not sure the Archduke was the type for a long term relationship. I like the story of the bath house brawl that got him sent off to live in Salzburg.

Marriage to the king would be great for Sophie Charlotte. He wouldn't have pestered her for you know what and the charity bazaar fire would have been butterflied away!

Who says the Archduke has to be faithful ;)

And you can say "sex" its not an illegal word lol

Wonder about the Queens' guard, after all Franz Josef joked that they should appoint a ballerina as Ludwig Viktor's bodyguard (I shudder to think what his ACTUAL bodyguards were busy doing). A female regiment in the army, perhaps?:D

Franz Josef would most likely employ a bodyguard who had no homosexual desires in fear of being blackmailed by the body guard.

After the marriage of Ludwig II to Sophie Charlotte, there are now two sisters as royal consorts: Sophie Charlotte as Queen Consort of Bavaria and Elizabeth as Empress of Austria.
The two brothers-in-law, Ludwig II and Francis Joseph I agree to a military alliance.

"A thousand inmost greetings from the bottom of my heart" and "my heart is longing for you" were two of the ways in which Ludwig signed off when writing to his fiancée, Princess Sophie Charlotte.
Apparently Ludwig II could write with affection.
