The Empire will survive: a collaborative TL

4th September, 476: Odoacer deposes Romolus Augustus, but when he is going to return the Imperial symbols to Zenon, Emperor of the Eastern Romans, emissaries of the Senate arrive to offer him the title of Emperor of Western Romans, along with the Roman citizenship to all the barbarians settled in Italy, in a extreme attempt to save the Empire. The Germanic conqueror accepts and is crown in Ravenna...

So, I'm going to launch this which seems an ambitious project: a collaborative timeline in the pre 1900 thread with POD a survival of the WRE and the continuation of Late Antiquity Age. Respect to the TLs in post 1900 thread which imposed a limit of 50 or 100 years, this project will not have time limits, or rather will continue until there is a general interest around it.

Because of its lenght, the suggestion is to focus to essential events first, and to insert later cultural and religious events, unless they will be determinant for the prosecution of the project.

Personally, as the title and the POD suggests, I aim for a prolongation of the WRE the long as possible, for the rest all kind of ideas (without surpassing the limits of ASB, of course) are well accepted.

I hope this project will be supported by many of you.

Trying to vitalize this project with other PODs...

November 476: Siagrum, the Magister Militum of the Roman enclave in Northern Gaul, recognizes Odoacer as Emperor and requestes help to defend his land from the Frank expansionism. Odoacer, even if he is busy to retake Dalmatia from Julius Nepos, promises to give help and starts to gather troops to send north; he needs howewer to make a deal with the Burgundians to secure the transit...

March 477: Gundobar, king of the Burgundians, accepts the alliance with Odoacer and allows the transit of troops and goods from Italy to Northern Gaul and viceversa. Siagrum starts to reinforce its positions in prevision of a war with the Franks...

486: Battle of Noviodanum between the Romans and the Franks. Thanks to the reinforcements coming from Italy and Burgundy, Siagrum is able to repel the invasion attempt of Clovis I. The Franks remain over the Rhein, Roman Gaul is saved. However, at this point the collaboration between Siagrum and Odoacer starts to diverge. The first wants to free all of Gaul, the second doesn't want to open a front while the Ostrogoths, sobilled by Zenon, make pressures to invade the Western Empire...

I have had the same problem with my timeline, so I will shout out, I am interested but I have no idea about the time period.
