In Islamic tradition, 570 CE is the “Year of the Elephant”, in which the Aksumite governor/king of Yemen marched his army (including elephants) to Mecca. 570, in case you don’t know, is the year Muhammad bin Abdullah was born.
According to the story, referenced in the Quran, birds rained pebbles from the sky, and the lead elephant refused to enter the city of Mecca. I don’t know what the
that means either
Anyway, Mecca was the only big source of food for miles around. If the army had not been randomly destroyed or something, many Meccans would have been killed, almost certainly including people like Muhammad’s uncle who raised him, or perhaps his parents. So Islam would be flattened, and Axum would be strong, all before Muhammad even got a chance to start.
Though this is oral tradition, it likely wasn’t completely made up. The Meccans simply didn’t differentiate between the oral history and the legend.
So, what do you imagine would happen?
