A bit of an offshoot from my "Golden Continent" post. Through developed trade routes with the help of giant eland, African rice is brought to the Congo river system through traders. West African rice does well in a variety of conditions and there are even floating varieties for deep water. The Congo region gets rain nearly year round and the Congo river is a very reliable source of water and is highly navigable.
Would rice spread throughout the region, and if it did, what would be the effects it would have on Central Africa? Would a Kongo kingdom eventually conquer the entire main branch of the Congo and make contact with the East African highlands?
