The Effects of no Entente and No Centra Powers?

i finally got some work done on writing more of my ASB ATL (specifically, Britain again) and finally got to the 20th century. i even came up with some new material for the 1910s, but now i'm at a bit of a snag

see, ITTL, World War I never occurs (it's replaced by a regional war between Austria and Serbia which grows to include some other states in and around the Balkans, but most of the major European powers stay out of it) because the alliance systems which caused such a large-scale war don't come to be.

i wanted to get some opinions as to what would take place in western Europe (and teh rest of the world for that matter) without the occurrence of WW1. for simplicity's sake, the alliances just don't form for whatever reason (that reason itself isn't important, just the results of it). at the moment, i'm particularly interested in what could/would happen with Britain, since that IS what i'm presently working on

Hmm, I want to read that timeline, could you send me a link?

I think there was trouble in Ireland looming.

Without an Alliance system it is hard to say if the situation got defused or more complicated. I think you have both possibilites.

France is still pissed because of AL, but this diminishes over the years.

Germany still dreams of Weltpolitik, but perhaps somebody notice that a fleet competition with the British Empire is a big waste of money.

Russia with his growing economy, has times of trouble lying ahead. If the people get more wealthier they want participation. Something which is difficult with the Zar and his screw you Duma attitude.

And than their is the whole nationalism in AH and Russia with lot of people wanting their own state.

There are many possibilites for conflicts with only two participants.

i'm still working on the whole timeline, so it's very much incomplete, but i suppose it couldn't hurt to finally share a link  i think i'll see if i can edit that into my signature later today

for Ireland, do you suppose there would be an earlier push for independence/dominionhood?

i did already put some thought into Austria-Hungary's nationalist movements. a basic idea is that they could very well undergo a revolution of their monarchy following *WW1 and i just figure out ATL something or other from there

any other ideas?

does anyone have any ideas as to how this could affect the rise of socialism/communism? (or lack thereof?)

The Germany, one of the biggest problems from the establiwshments perspective was the rise of the SPD, which pre-WWI still encompassed the more radical socialist tendencies beside social democrats. In the Reichstag elections of 1912 they had gained 6% of the votes and won 34,8%, giving them 110 seats.
Without some patriotic war effort to rein them in, the SPD will probably continue to grow and at some point it will be impossible to govern without them.

Austria_Hungary: If Franz Ferdinand survives and FJ dies on schedule, Emperor Franz II. will put much pressure on the Magyars whose special position he despised. I don't believe in the Popovici plan as FF's favorite solution; as he was very conservative and giving up the historical crown lands as basic organization would be very hard for him. It is far from sure that Franz II will create the Austrian-Hungarian Civil War, but I expect lots of internal trouble from 1916 on.
