As it says on the tin. I heard that the TCC was part of the cause of the economic problems facing the Western Empire in the 4th and 5th centuries.

They say it was not 'the Third Century Crisis'; it was the unavoidable disintegration and death 'due to natural causes' of too big and too long-living entity.

It was miraculously saved by Diocletian.

My point here is the Third Century Crisis was absolutely inescapable.
just give or take some 50-100 years or so...

In the short run, you could do very well: Have Alexander Severus. (The Imperial Roman goldenbou of AH wishcasting) decively win his Persian campaign. The Romans win a respectable peace and earns the admiration of the legions. From that point, not only is Alexander himself much more secure in his power, the Sassanids have had their wings clipped early in their rise.

If he lives a few decades and is a competent commander, that buys Rome a lot of (relative) peace.

That's true, but doesn't do anything about the underlying economic crisis brought about by managing an empire the size of the Roman one without a real understanding of economics.

Who needs economics when you can plunder? All Rome needs to do is keep sacking other nations. At least until that runs out. Again. Which sorta started the crisis. Would it even be possible/likely for Rome to learn economics?
