Prelude to Revolution, The War And The Establishment of The Empire

The Beginning of Columbia (August Sonoreal Roosevelt)

In 1763, the Seven Years War ended, and in 1766 the harsh Josiah Martin was appointed Governor of Quebec, alienating the French living there. In 1769, the Western area of British America was designated the ‘Crown Commonwealth Territory’, angering many land speculators and many colonists.

In 1774, the Quebec Act, which would have ended the infringement of Catholicism and allowed the personal use of French Civil Law, narrowly failed to pass by one vote, alienating and disappointing the mostly French inhabitants of the area. Meanwhile, a series of Acts of Parliament were issued that were intolerable to the colonists. In such a situation, all that was needed was a spark.

The war began with the signing of the Declaration of Independence, which inspired a series of revolts against the British. In the early battles, George Washington was laid low by a stray bullet, and was replaced with the tactical genius Darius Dixon. Dixon won a string of battles and when open battle failed, embarked on a guerrilla campaign that bled the British dry. However what really saved the day was France entering the war, which forced the British to commit themselves to facing a much tougher force than they expected. Finally, at Yorktown in 1783, the British surrendered to the Franco-American forces. The new nation was to consist of British Canada, including Quebec, the Crown Commonwealth Territory, the Thirteen Colonies, and Florida.

Now, what happened next was the hard part. For three years, the Founding Fathers could not agree on a Constitution for the newborn state. In the end, it was Dixon who broke the tie by suggesting that the state should become a Monarchy, which would be bound by a Constitution much like the one they had been debating over. The Founding Fathers listened to Dixon’s reasoned argument, his words, and could not help but agree.

It was decided that Columbia (the agreed-upon name of the newborn nation) would not be a mere Kingdom, but an Empire. They found a Monarch soon enough, in 1789 – the 26-year old Mark-Johann Hohenzollern, a minor member of the Prussian House. He agreed to be crowned Emperor of Columbia, and soon enough he was crowned in full grandeur. Darius Dixon was to be his First Minister, although the Emperor would have some power himself.

It was the solution that saved Columbia.
