The Duke and Duchess have a child

would would happen if HRH Prince Edward, The Duke of Windsor (former King Edward VIII) and Wallis, Duchess of Windsor had a child (a son)? likely very early in their marriage (1937-38) what would this Prince's status be? would he get along with his Royal cousins or be like his father, a jet setter that had little to nothing to do with the rest of the Family for the 30 some odd years after the Abdication crisis?

One could guess that their child's status would be that of near commoner. It is unlikely that he or she would receive any major title within George VI's life and probably Elizabeth the Queen-Mother's life also.

If the child were male, they would succeed to the Windsor Duchy, but the letters patent were very clear that they would not be HRH. If it was a daughter. she would be Lady X Windsor. Male children would be Lord X Windsor as there were no subsidary titles attached to the Duchy (which is very unusual).

The child would effectively be noble, but not royal and would not be in the line of succession.

Why were Edward Windsor and Wallis Simpson childless? Were they unable to conceive a child, or were one (or both) of them sterilized?

Personal aside: thank God Duke Edward didn't have children. He would have been a horrible influence, given his blatant Nazi sympathies and overall prejudices. Of course, that's not a subjective evaluation, right?

Wallis apparently had a botched abortion which, for lack of a better term (and apologies to our female members), ruptured her plumbing. All sorts of speculation that Edward was sterile or impotent, but given his sexual hyperactivity there's reason to doubt that. No one ever did (and if so, we'd never know the results) a sperm count, so we'll never know for sure. From the TL research I did, the Wallis evidence seems better-founded.
