The Dominion of New England

The War of Independence

Tensions were rising all over the Thirteen Colonies. The people that lived there wanted to be independent, not burdened with the taxes of their colonial masters.

By 1775, the tensions had erupted to full out war. But the British response to tax problems were changing of the minds of those in some colonies, especially in New England. Finally, war erupted. In this rebellion, only 6 colonies participated in active revolt. They were Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Delaware.

By 1783, the revolting colonies had won. The United States of America was formed, with its capital at Savannah in Georgia. George Washington became the first President of the USA.

I really don't buy this. New England was the bastion of the Patriot movement, while the loyalists were strongest in the Carolinas and Georgia.

^^ This. Sometimes people tend to forget that it was the Boston tea party, not the American tea party.

But Faelin's right.

And slavery'd only buy you PA back then. If Georgie didn't mess it up.

The New England states were the states feeling the burden of high taxes, with their representatives such as Samuel Adams and John Hancock demanding the revolt.

Maybe if you pushes the rich states south, you may find this but would require a further PoD that would affect everything we know to be American.

Eg would the south rebel in 1861 if that was where all the money and power was?

Hmm.....well, although perhaps unlikely, I can concede that it *could* have happened(I actually contemplated a scenario just like this, believe it or not), but it would likely require a POD of some time before the Revolution actually broke out.....maybe a few things go differently after the Somerset case?

Especially in the lowlands, where most of the planters were(although some of the Loyalist planters did eventually join up with the Patriots, but only when it was clear that they were on the winning side).....although many of the backcountry settlers, many of them Scots-Irish, were actually fairly pro-Patriot in their leanings.

While many of the planters down South were perfectly fine with remaining subjects of the British Empire: after all, abolitionism had not yet become a threat to their profits and control over that area, just yet.
