Hi guys, this is my first serious TL and so I hope you enjoy but don't be too harsh
The fighting had stopped, the staunch Anglo-Saxons sheltered behind their impenetrable shield wall, while the Norman's stood at the bottom of the hill, when one by one they whispered something to each other. "The Duke... He's dead?" One asked worriedly, though he was not alone and soon all the warriors, even the Anglo-Saxons had heard the news, "The Duke is dead! Our enemies are alone!" They called out, they made to run out but Harold, the King got there just in time and ordered they stay in their ranks, which they did so.
And the Anglo-Saxons watched on as they saw a man ride out, declaring himself to be the Duke, which he was. But the Duke looked on in horror as he realized that his plan hadn't worked, and now some of his troops had ran away for good, and the shield wall was still there. Though now he realized that he couldn't go back to Normandy disgraced, he knew he had to make one last push. He got his cavalry together, and said they had to push on. He didn't know what else to do and was now slightly worried.
Soon him and his cavalry were prepared, the Anglo-Saxons watched on as the Duke rode at them, screaming, with his archers shooting them to keep them occupied, though as the Duke charged he realized he was going to die, but he did not falter. He rammed into the front of the shield wall and made a few Anglo-Saxons crumple under his horse, the same was happening to various people along the line of horsemen. But the Angles didn't falter and they fought back with an almost beserker-like attitude. Soon his line of horsemen were cut down and he tried to ride back, but one of the Anglo-Saxons ran forward and cut his horse, the axe the man used went in deep. It was now William realized this wasn't any ordinary Anglo-Saxon, no this was a Norseman (or Thingman as the Anglo-Saxons called them.) The horse whinnied a most horrific noise and fell, and William lay now, on the ground.
He looked up and Harold was standing above him, a sword in his hand. "Get up you Orc!" The King said to him, though he refused, and so Harold forced him onto his knees and called down to the Norman's, "this is the man you all followed! Now watch as I strike him down and any that have sworn loyalty to him!" At this Harold swung his sword and it cleaved through Williams neck, Harold held the head up with the blood dripping from its severed neck, "look upon this as a warning! Now go or I shall cast you all down! Your Duke really is dead now!"
The Norman's ran knowing now their leader really was dead. Now the shield wall broke and all the men charged after the fleeing invaders. The day had been won again, and England had been saved from two invaders in the space of a single year. Harold was now officially King Harold II of England, while the new Duke of Normandy was declared, Robert II, who began to plot his eventual revenge upon the Anglo-Saxons of England and Harold II.
