The "Create-your-own-dream-TL" thread

That's right, this is the thread where you outline what YOU think the coolest TL ever would be. Your description can be anywhere from just a paragraph's worth to a full-fledged mini-TL if you want, cliche to the max or something totally original. Here's mine:

Multiple PODs involve China reforming Meiji-style at around 1900,
Cuba being annexed after 1898, and Roosevelt running for a third term in 1908, eventually completing almost five terms, dying in office in 1919. During his tenure in office, Cubans and Fillipinos are granted citizenship, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic are annexed, and the electoral system is reformed to be more direct, throwing out the electoral college. Also, border skirmishes between Mexico and the US lead to war in the mid-1910's, ending in the US annexing a huge chunk of northern Mexico.
World War 1 starts the same, but America stays isolationist, and the Germans do slightly better, ending the war in a status quo antebellum, except in East Asia, and Russia puts down the Bolsheviks. China had joined the Central Powers, easily conquering French Indochina, British Hong Kong, Vladivostok and other parts of the Russian Far East, but the Japanese manage to keep them from occupying Korea or Taiwan.
Back in America, an open Klansmen is elected president as a Democrat in 1920, but is successfully blocked from significantly expanding Jim Crow by Republicans in Congress. In Austria, the minorities are kept in their place after a brutal dictator named Adolf Hitler takes control of the country in a coup in 1923. A more powerful fascist regime comes in Italy after a coup in 1924, without Benito Mussolini. After a worldwide depression hits in 1928, Fascist also come to power in France under Petain in 1932. Germany remains monarchist for now, and the Nazi Party does form, but it isn't very prominent at first. Spain goes communists Britain gets fed up with European politics and strengthens ties with America.

No, I'm not done, I'm just tired, and I'll put up the rest later. So, what is YOUR dream TL?

My dream TLs usually wind up in ASB.

I'm working on a Churchill stays in power and scraps the establishment in favour of meritocracy TL. That's in after 1900.

If I was really dreaming, that might start with the Lloyd-George government introducing a land value tax as they planned (OTL the House of Lords blocked the budget). That would also be in after 1900.

Before 1900 you would have a clean slate (pre history) so anything goes. A utopian society, space travel by 100,000BC, settlement of the Galaxy and finally ASB abilities. Absolutely anything goes. In short I would argue that this belongs in after 1900 or ASB.

This sounds quite cool - I am eager to hear more. :)

Im doing a Timeline 191 thing, except Im editing some things, like Russia being an ally to the US and stuff like that, I think its going to be really different from Turtledoves 191.

After that I'll do the same thing except that the Soviet Union will exist in that timeline and it would be different

My timeline "Hats in the Ring" is pretty much my dream-TL. Multi-party democracy, class struggle, oh my!

I have no idea how to do it fully, but one that leads to a world based on socio-political libertarianism and economic Democratic Socialism that embraced space exploration and never abandoned major space projects.

That or Japan ruling the world, which would be awesome, though probably dystopic.

This will be a short outline of my yet unfinished, barely started Glory of the Eagle TL so if you don't want my TL spoiled then don't read this: Phillip Hamilton does not die in 1801 in a duel. Through butterflies Aaron Burr is killed in a carriage accident and does not have his duel with Alexander Hamilton. With the two Hamiltons still alive the Federalist Party remains vital and Thomas Jefferson is a bit more anti-British then OTL and James Madison dies early so the unpopular George Clinton is nominated by the Democratic-Republicans and Charles Pinckney of the Federalists is elected President. Alexander Hamilton becomes Pinckney's secretary of state and helps improve relations with Britain. This bores fruit and impressment and seizure of American ships end. However it pisses off France and as a result the US declares war on France. In a fierce war the US with British support wins and seizes several Caribbean islands of France and Florida. Federalist dominance bolstered by the war continues into the 1820s and with the Democratic-Republicans extinct they are replaced by the American Party. Phillip Hamilton is elected President in 1832 and begins encouraging gradual manumission starting with the Upper South. This policy is continued by President William Henry Harrison who in a war with Mexico annexes it's northern half but is assassinated by a Southern fanatic for banning slavery in all the territories. Daniel Webster succeeds Harrison and he is even more fiercely anti-slavery. In the 1850s when an abolition bill is passed South Carolina and a few other states attempt to revolt with French support. The revolts are quickly crushed and the US declares war on the Franco-Russian alliance who is fighting the German Confederation in Europe. In this war the US annexes the rest of Mexico ( a French ally), most Spanish possessions (another French ally), and Alaska and for helping Britain also gets a large chunk of Western Canada. Following the war America continues it's dynamic expansion and industrialism as Korea and Japan both modernize. In the 1920s Russia and Germany form an alliance and attacks France Britain and the USA comes to it's aid and the Global War ensues. In heavy fighting Germany makes a seperate peace and develops an atomic bomb. In revenge Russia also attacks Germany. Russia is crushed and partitioned into some twenty or so nation states. The Great Rivarly begins between the German dominated European Confederation that stretches from the Rhine to the Urals and dominates the Middle East and Africa and the Pan-Oceanic Union consisting of the British Empire, the USA, China, and the Korean Empire. However it is an peaceful economic struggle and the world slowly amalgamates with a Terran Union formed by 2009.

If you like the Hamiltons check out my American Monarchy TL which I will call America Eterna.

Trust me you'll like who we came up with for George Washington's heir.;)

POD at the French Revolution:

Girondins defeat Montagnards in power struggle in National Convention, and are therefore able to rule relatively unopposed. This is caused by Dumouriez not getting defeating and not defecting to the Austrians. He marches into the Netherlands, and the Patriot exiles establish themselves as the Batavian Republic.

The Dutch and French navies link up and together, they land troops and weaponry in Ireland to help the United Irishmen. Hence, the United Irishmen Rebellion is successful and Ireland gains independence.

As the Batavian Republic is not crippled with a 100 million livres indemnity, the state is a bit less crippled, and a successful moderated federal constitution is developed.

The French go on to annex Belgium and the Rhineland. In Italy, it would be nice to create a Napoleon - Suvorov matchup, but butterflies make that difficult. Anyway, the French are defeated in Italy one way or another, stalemating the front somewhere in Piedmont.

Let's throw in a crushing defeat of the British fleet somewhere in here by a combined Dutch-French-Spanish fleet that brings the British to the negotiating table.

While this is all going on, Poland has a lot going on. The 4-year Diet goes off as OTL, reforming the government and the nation. Somehow, Poland is able to successfully defend itself against Russia, perhaps Prussian help, or simply a very lucky campaign for the Poles. So Poland maintains its boundaries post-First Partition, and the two other partitions don't go thorugh. Poland probably goes full-republican later.

So, we have three big republics in Europe - France, the Batavian Republic, and Poland. Don't know exactly what happens from here, but definetly things that get France and republics on top.

Ok then.

Constantine the Great is defeated by Licinius, who promptly reverses the Edict of Milan in 325. Licinius begins massive waves of Christian persecution, especially in the east, causing thousands of Christians to flee east in the Persian Empire. By around 350, Christianity has become a favoured religion of the Sassanid monarchs, and at the Council of Susa in 353, a religion similar to OTL Christianity but with more dualistic Zoroastrian elements becomes the state religion of Iran.

Meanwhile, lacking the crucial elements of Christianity and relatively competent Emperors of Constantine's dynasty that helped to keep the Roman Empire together and even flourishing during the 4th century, Rome quickly begins to go into nosedive. In 335, Licinius is assassinated in the capital by men sent by the Bishop of Rome. Since he has left no designated successor, the Empire immediately falls into another violent round of civil war. Licinius' son eventually emerges victorious in 340, but is heavily defeated in an invasion of Christian Armenia two years later. Licinius the Younger manages to slap down a revolt by one Claudius, but Claudius manages to escape to Britain which he sets up as a semi-independent state.

Meanwhile in 344 the Persians invade Syria and level Antioch and Damascus, aided by local Christians and Jews who make up as much as half of the population. The following year, Licinius the Younger is finally overthrown by Claudius of Eburacum, who names himself Claudius III. Claudius realises that the only way to maintain Roman control is to restore the Tetrachy, which is done in 347. Martianus becomes Augustus of the East.

The 350s are largely a peaceful decade, except in Britain, which has dropped out of the Imperial sphere on influence. Barbarian Franks begin to invade from across the North Sea, and the Roman citizens flee westward. Some of them reach Ireland, beginning Celtic Christianity, which in future will stand in stark opposition to Iranian Christianity. In 361, the Second Tetrachy collapses when the Caesar of the East, Pertinax, manages to defeat and murder the Eastern Emperor Martianus. Pertinax begins a short lived period of religious tolerance in the Eastern Empire; which is ended when Claudius III gathers forces from the West, and defeats Pertinax at the Battle of Sirmium in 363.

Claudius now attempts to introduce worship of Sol Invictus as the state religion of the Roman Empire, and begins to clamp down on other forms of paganism, but especially monotheistic religions including Judaism, Zoroastrianism and the various Christian sects. When a Gothic King converts to Christianity in 364, Claudius invades his kingdom, and deposes him in favour of a pagan relative. However, during the campaign Claudius is badly injured, and dies at Athens in spring 365.

In the 360s, the Persians have begun to send embassies to an emerging power to their north; the Huns. Hunnic conversion to Iranian Christianity is surprisingly easy; fuelled by Holy War, the Huns descend upon the hapless Goths in 368, and utterly defeat them. The Goths, their kingdom in tatters, flee southward into the Roman Empire, ignoring the protests of the Emperor Faustinus. For a few years, they cause havoc in the Balkans, sacking Thessalonica and Byzantium, before Faustinus inflicts an apparently decisive defeat on them in 373. Unfortunately for the Emperor, a small Gothic force is able to narrowly defeat him the following year, and he is overthrown by Euripus, a Praetorian Guard who names himself Augustus.

By the early 380s, the Huns have begun to gather on the Danube, demanding gold from the helpless Euripus, whose problems are worsened when Bahram IV, Shah of Persia, invades Syria in 381. Fortunately for the Romans, Bahram is defeated by a talented young general named Symmachus. Nonetheless, Euripus is badly shaken, and decides to establish the Third Tetrachy, naming his brother in law Marcus Procopius Emperor of the West. This new tetrachy however proves no more stable than its predecessors. In 384, Procopius invades the East, with Hunnic support. Euripus is forced to cede most of the Balkans and Libya to Procopius, but more damagingly still, a force of around 10,000 Huns is now loose in Pannonia, adding to the remaining Goths who are still laying waste to Greece and Illyria.

Euripus dies peacefully in Nicomedia in 385, and Symmachus becomes Emperor of the East. Symmachus agrees to a peace with Persia, ceding large areas of Syria and Cappadocia. This effectively reduces Roman Syria to a coastal strip, but ensures stability in the Eastern Empire. Symmachus himself is a Jew, but establishes full religious tolerance in the Eastern Empire. For the next four years, he begins to work hard to restore his Empire to stability. But in 389, he is fatally wounded after defeating the Goths at the Battle of Stobi. Procopius, determined to keep the Third Tetrachy afloat, names Gregorius, the last Governor of Britain, as Emperor of the East. All pretence of centralised Roman control in Britain has now ceased. Gregorius is crowned in Nicomedia in 390.

Well this is the first century anyway. If I ever do more of it, both Roman Empires will collapse, and Christianity will be divided in two even more strongly than in OTL; into a Celtic West centred on the British Isles and Gaul, and an Iranian East centred in Mesopotamia. The Sassanids will end up controlling all of the OTL Achaemenid Empire, from the Danube to the Indus, but no further. The Greeks will look back to their classical past, and convert to Celtic Christianity in opposition to the Sassanids. A rump Roman state will survive in North Africa around Carthage, preserving much classical learning. Eventually it converts to a form of Christianity perhaps resembling Arianism.

I hope it was an enjoyable read!

I've got all the components floating around, but I've never been able to put all of them together into one proper TL. Workin' on it.

-A much more divided colonization of North and South America. More Dutchmen, some Swedes, some Danes, maybe Scots and English seperately establishing settlements depending on things.

-More creepy places and alternate ghost stories. If I had gotten that far in the last Mark of my TL, I would've had the Dutch expand through the Appalachians and begin coal mining later on. One such mining town would be named Ravenstein, and it would be there that I would attempt to combine the attributes of Silent Hill with Lovecraft Country and make a place that would give anybody the chills.

-Republics for all! They come in so many shapes and colors and sizes, I'm surprised they're not used more often. Confederations are cool, too, but only when necessary.

-Surviving Native American states. Maybe the Iroquois, maybe the Pueblo Indians, maybe something with the Cherokee. At least one of 'em ought to survive.

-Both surviving Native sub-Sahara African states (more than just Ethiopia) and at least one independent Boer (or *Boer/-analogue) state.

-A slightly more fragmented Europe. While a unified Germany is cool, maybe having one or two states opt out could add to the story. On the flip side of things, France has had enough revolts and rebellions that surely something could've happened there, even if it was just a temporary situation like LTTW's Royal/Republican France.

-A surviving Ottoman presence in Europe.

-More investment in later steam locomotives and prolonged use of steam in railways. Really, there's seventy-odd years of advances in steam technology that no locomotive manufacturer has fully taken advantage of yet, and that bothers me.

I'm certain I could think of more later.

Understanding "dream TL" in the sense "certainly I'll never make it",
a pair of TLs comes into my mind.

The first I would like "Clockwise TL", with a PoD in the 12th (or 11th) century.
The Arabs break the resistance of the Christian kingdoms on the Iberian Peninsula.
They overcome their shy of the barren North, fan out over France, and befall Central
Europe. In the same period, the crusaders do particularly well, requonquer the
Holy Land, pacify the Arabs in the region, and assault Egypt.
This carries on for centuries, finally resulting in a Muslim Europe and a Christian North
Africa and Middle East.

The other TL I have in mind would be called "Counterclockwise".
The requonquista works particlarly well, and is centuries ahead of OTL.
At the same time, the Turks ally with Arabs, and with their help they achieve
military victories also centuries ahead of time. They conquer the Byzantine
Empire almost as a whole (rather than shrinking it first) and brush over the Balkans.
This carries on for centuries, finally resulting in a Muslim Europe and a Christian North
Africa and Middle East.
