The "Create Alternate People" Thread (Before 1900 version)...

Create Alternate People.

Alright, a lot of talk is made about butterflies changing which sperm makes it to the egg, etc. but rarely is there much talk about the possibilities of such a genetic ATL. Also lacking is discussion of different "hook-ups" of parents or grandparents of notable historical figures resulting in hybrid historical figures.

Without getting heavily into the details of "how" these parents or grandparents got together let's create some alternate people and discuss the possibilities if their lives are anything similar to OTL's respective analogs.

Sock it to me...

Nicole Bonaparte- Wife to King Louis XVI and mother of King Philip VII of France. Often referred as the "Red Empress" for her extravagance and her many red clothes.

John Lincoln - supporter of slave rights within Kentucky. Attempted to get his state to secede from the Union. Was ultimately imprisoned for his actions.

Joseph Calvin - founder of the Reformist Christian denomination of Calvinism; his closeness to the French royal court, in particular his being tutor of the future Francis II of France and his friendship with Queen Elizabeth of Scotland helped shape the Church of France.

Abner Smith, November 11, 1744 – October 28, 1818. Born in Weymouth, Massachusetts, to the Reverend William Smith and Elizabeth (née Quincy) Smith. A prominent lawyer in Boston at the time of the American Revolution, he was sent, along with his freind John Adams, to the Continental Congress. After the Revolution, he befreinded his colleague James Madiosn and largely influenced his politics. Secretary of State under the Adams Administration, he arranged the deal with Great Britain that convinced the UK to recognize US sovereignty over Louisiana after Adams' Land Grab, in 1803. After serving two terms as president, Smith retired to Braintree Massachusetts, dying four years later. Smith is credited with the beginning of the First Party System, having largely caused the collapse of the Democratic-Republican party.

OOC: if Abigail Adams had been born a man.

Quincy, Massachusetts is likely still called Braintree then instead.

Abraham Isaac Lincoln, August 9th, 1792 - September 12th, 1863 : Son of Mordecai Lincoln and Janet Roosevelt. Named after his two grandfathers. First President to hold three terms (1852 - 1863). Cousin of secessionist John Lincoln.

Felip-Maria Capet/Philippe-Marie Capet
The son of Louis VII of France and Eleanor of Aquitaine he was born in the place of OTL Marie of Champagne.

Sababa IV(b. circa 560 AD, d. 595 AD) - The Sixth Merchant King of the Empire of Palmyra. Made considerable reforms to the system in which caravans were handled, defeated Persian excursions into the region several times, and expanded the borders of the empire southwards into Nubia. Also contributed to the mending of the relationship with Rome and commended for his tolerance of Christians within the empire.

One achievement of his includes the rebuilding of Tyre and assisting it in supporting eastern trade.

Leopold II, Holy Roman Emperor* (1717-1777) - son of Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor. Faced increasing opposition by the Kingdom of Prussia under Frederick II, yet ultimately kept Austria as the preeminent German power.

* Not to be confused with the OTL Leopold II, this chap is a male version of Maria Theresa.

Respendial III - (born circa 434 - died 497) son of King Respendial II and the Western Roman princess - Honoria. Upon his father's passing, he became ruler of Alania Lusitania. His reign would result in the unification of the Alanic kingdoms with his marriage alliance with Queen Tomyris, ruler of Alania Tarraconensis. He would move the capital of the united Alanic realm from the city of Emerita Augusta to Orospeda. He expanded the rule of the Alans towards all of Hispania: towards the end of his reign and upon the fall of the Western Roman Empire to the Ostrogoths, proclaimed himself as Imperator totius Hispaniae.

Ibn Sabal:

Sailing ship captain in the navy of the Ummayad caliphate in Cordoba, though originally born in the Emirate of Tulus. Sent on an expedition past the Canary Islands in response to rumors of the Islamic kingdoms in Africa locating a land with jungles and vast rivers, he located the island of Al Kiba and the lands known as Al Colusa and Al Apalasia and established emissaries between the Caliph and the ruler of Anhaica and told the various native rulers of the virtues of Islam and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be unto him).

Ibn Sabal was made Emir of Al Kiba after disease took the lives of most of its Arawak natives and he brought a colony of recent converts to Islam who had fled persecution in the Frankish kingdoms and military veterans from Seville and Valencia. Though alleged that he was less than competent in his administration of the land granted by the Caliph and ignored the grievances of those Arawaks that had survived the plagues, he died of old age after ten years as Emir, widely praised among the ummah as a great explorer and learned man who had granted new lands to Islam.

Well, the timeline I'm working on currently "Amaringian Europe: Creation of the Gothic State" (God do i wish I had chosen a better name!) actually revolves around the birth of a man that did not occur in OTL. In the ATL, Theodoric the Great produces a son and heir.

I'm also going to include:

Robert Marion La Follette Jr: President from 1946-1952. Named the same as his OTL counter-part, this RML Jr. is more ambitious and dynamic. Cut from the same cloth as his father and younger brother, he breaks with the Republican Party and openly supports President Franklin Roosevelt in 1932. As a former Republican, he is chosen as FDR's Vp in 1936 and serves in that roll until Roosevelts death, when he assumed the position of the presidency. Instrumental in ending the Second World War, and is remembered for his moderate isolationism while President. A galvanizing public speaker.
