The Cradle of Serbian Religion: Kosovo

I think I have misread this or it might be a mistake by a media person (both equaly likely) but what if the cradle of Serbian religion really was in Kosovo? Are we talking about a Serbian Jesus or a "heathen" religion in the middle of Europe.

IIRC there are many sites in Kosovo that are considered 'holy' by Serbs, who again IIRC consider Kosovo a sort of Cradle of Serbian Civilization.

BTW, is there an alternate history that you are preposing here, or should I move this thread to Chat?

The medieval Serbian state, which has absolutely nothing to do with modern Serbia, had a somewhat more southerly center of gravity. There are several old monasteries in Kosovo, but I think the "holiness" of the site is related to the Battle of Kosovo in which Serbian statehood was extinguished by the overwhelming Ottoman victory. There's sort of a martyr thing going on there. Weirdly, Kosovo wasn't part of Serbia all that long, nor is it the place of origin of the Serbian state, although once they had it the capital was usually there, and it was one of the richer areas of the kingdom.

A lot of the attitude is just manufactured national myth, like just about everything else that is important to anyone anywhere these days.

What Abdul said sounds right if my vague recognition memory can be trusted.

I would have to agree. Fond memories of who once lived there, at the expense of folks who've lived there for 500 years.

Right or Wrong, who knows, its all Balkanized and stuff. What a mess.

I have to admit that I'm intrigued by Spain (Basque), Russia (Insert pissed off province), and other countries supporting the Serbians, and defying the EU, do to resentment at allowing small enclaves from breaking away from thier alledged countries.

This might get ugly...

What I have in mind is AH. I didn't say Serbian culture, because I think Abdul is right but as we all know, there is argument enought to keep that debate going on for ever anyway.

I asked about religion, not culture (but I admit there is a lot of overlap). The way I see it, there is 3 ways to have a Serbian religion with Kosovo origin. 1) Jesus born in Kosovo, 2) A person changes Christianity enough works in Kosovo, the Martin Luther option and 3) a Serbian pagan religion (not heathen as the original post said).

Why can't a Serbian pagan religion be heathen?

Come to think of it, what does "heathen" actually mean?

a heathen is someone who doesn't believe in your religion and doesn't know about it, an infidel is someone who knows of your religion yet continues not to believe, and a heretic is someone who claims to believe in your religion but does not, and an apostate is someone who used to believe in it but no longer does.
