The Coronation of the Hun

Why would that invite assassination?

Because the Senate wouldn't have it over their cold lifeless body.

'There are plans being made for stronger rulers to rise'? (given that they're already headed by local rulers, I'm not sure I see the difference)

I know, I fudged that. It was a last-minute addition...

Speaking of which, I've noticed that, aside from the last of the Arians, there aren't any heresies in the Christian world, no religious disputes lasting more than ten years.....I'm wondering how long this will last.

IIRC there were no major disputes during this time? Except for the whole "iconoclasm" thing which ultimately culminates in the schism of the Orthodox Churches from Rome.

....and are promptly melted down.

Nuh-uh! :p ;)

Will the two "Roman Empires" ever merge again, or will they remain seperate?

Yes, yes of course! A house divided can't stand, man! I gots plans for those two. Currently I have something a bit deus ex machina for my tastes that will reunite the Empire. I'm seeing if I can elaborate on it...

This is a very interesting timeline; bravo on a masterwork....you sure this is your first ATL? better than some I've seen.

Yes, indeed it is! Thank you for the encouragement! I find that one can make a really good TL if they just take it year by year. Wikipedia is a great source for this...

The corrected map, blah blah blah blah

Church doesn´t always do what the bible says. The first apostles weren´t the first bishops you know...

No doubt that you both mades a great team.

Hmm, the region of Tabriz-Persia is not coloured in yellow so is not controlled by the Caliphate?

Also I notice that Magrib is controlled by muslim landlords, this muslim landlords also controls Corsica, Sardinia and Balearic Islands? (no colour in these islands)

And for Thermopylae I know that this question is only by curiosity, but the fact is that I have great curiosity, the former maps before the map of G. Bone, are exactly the same in the format and style of an old PC game named "Annals of Rome", based your former maps in that game?

Continue with this Thermopylae-G. Bone this timeline is very interesting:cool:

@G.Bone

Better, better! My fault for not specifying the East Slavic states. Dunav is the one on the Danube river (hence the name) Epir is the one closest to Albania, just north of Epir is Rascia, and the last one is Illirik.

And I notice the Caliphate's lands are not changed at all.

(Al-Andalus should be changed to "Al-Ispanya")

@Inaki

No, can't say I've ever played the game. This is just a clip of Europe from a stock world map lying around around on my comp.

No, I should have specified. The Med. Islands (Malta, Sardinia, etc...) Are just disorganized at this point, basic manorialism. But I am going to play around with those isalnds. I'm thiniking of maybe Sicilia pressing for a Union with many of these islands, but we'll see what happens....

It would be a good idea, you can have with this union a talasocracy similar to the Old Cretian talasocracy of Minoic times, only that instead dominating the Egean like the Minoic kingdom this union could dominate the Tirrenum Sea and the Western Mediterranean (Could I suggest a name for this union? Regnum Tyrrheni?)

Note;

Since Akvitan is still existing in the last bit, I put it in between the HRE and "Moor" Land. There was no exact specific location so I guessitimated. Also incorporated on the map is the Burgundy "culture", the title of the HRE attached to the Slavic (OTL France) Realm, and corrected the names of TTL's Serbian Kingdoms.

The map is shamelessly borrowed from Shadow Knight's map challenge thread.

Wonderful, wonderful! But I still don't understand your reasoning behind keeping Akvitan? The kingdom was inherited in 773.

Speaking of which, what did the Slavs call their governments? I know they had something along the lines of "Kingship" or "kingdom", but exactly what is the word..?

I was looking at the installments and even though it was inherited, I wasn't too sure if it was still a regional power.

The map re-edited, again.

Paul wrote that slaves should obey their masters and masters shouldn't abuse their slaves (IMO to avoid making the Romans think Christianity was subversive and causing potential genocide), but then he all but ordered the Christian slave-owner Philemon to accept his runaway slave Onesimus (sp?) as "more than a slave," which implied that he wanted him freed.

There's a document from 100-ish AD about a bishop named Onesimus, so I guess Philemon got the point.

Perfect!

Just curious, you wouldn't happen to have a blank version of that map lying around? I'd like to have it for future references...

I'm going to post that map in the Map thread, it should be good publicity for my TL...

G. Bone great master of maps:)

Trying to search this without succes in my history books and internet (even I look in a book about russian mytologhy to see if there was some slavic name to kingdom but nothing).
The most similar thing that I has found is the title in slav of "kunedzi" for prince or king.

So what's a "Voivod"? I know they were called "Voivodships", but was that more akin to a principality rather than a kingdom?

I don't want to call the "Czar", unless I can find a good reason to call them as such...

Armenia really isn't that important at this time. Not to mention I'm not sure of its borders by 787.

Russia is still a mix of tribes at this point, but don't worry, you'll have your Kievan Rus, just give good 'ol Rurik the Viking time. ;)

But with the exodus of the Slavs - wouldn't that sort of empty out Russia?

Not all of it!

Although I should have mentioned the Khazars. The Khazars would be in south Russia at this point in time. Hmm...

According to the great Holy Sacred CyberEncyclopedia Wikipedia:D

"Voivod," or more commonly "voivode," is a Slavic word that originally denoted the principal commander of a military force. The word has since come to denote the governor of a province; the territory ruled by a voivod is known as a "voivodship."

More or less a warlord that rules a province.

In OTL was occupied by the persians from 429 until 637-40 occupied by the arabs until 885 when Armenia is independent under the bagratids.

But in TTL it seems at least according to the maps that Armenia is occupied by the Roman Empire of Trapezus (at least the most part of Armenia)

Hmm, could be than in TTL the influence of the swede varangians in Kiev State (well founded by a Varagian) will be more than in OTL, there are slav population in Novgorod and Kiev but less than in OTL so more varangian influence in forming the state?

It seems that the khazars was present with a certain degree of importance in OTL in the VI Century, in OTL in 626 emperor Heraclius make an alliance with the khazar khan Ziebil, this send 40000 men to help Heraclius in his war against Persia.
Also in the VIII Century were a great potence, two bizantine emperors of OTL married khazar women ( Justinian II in 704 married a sister of the khazar kaghan -she was the empress Teodora- and Constantine V in 732 with a daughter of the khazar kaghan -she was the empress Irene- and the son of Constantine V was known as Leon IV the Khazar).
So, in TTL the Khazars could be great allies of the Roman Empire of Trapezus in a defensive alliance against the arabs?
