The Coronation of the Hun

And it's back! I'm happy with it, don't worry. It's hard to write AH with PODs this far back once you get into the modern age. It's almost impossible to get into the heads of people whose antecedents have been so different than yours.

Nice! My only quibble is I would question the use of Dominion in this context (as I keep saying on other threads, it's a pretty unlikely name to be used in OTL, never mind by a non-British country). What's the French for Viceroyalty?

It's good, someitmes I wish there was some sort of identifier on the map but other than that I always enjoy the updates. I hope to see you continue the world of The Coronation of the Hun for quite some time. A question, how's the tech going in this world? Not just militarily but also medicinal technology and all that. Is it progressing at the same right as OTL? Faster? Slower?

Bald Imposter makes a wonderful point. The further back the PoD, the harder it becomes to detail the world... And it's been almost 1500 years! :eek: Something I personally didn't expect...

@Thande

True. Not sure what the French equivalent is... Hmm...

@Haggis

The tech is almost exactly the same as our world. A bit slower in some fields, slightly faster in others. I'll go into specifics later, I need to re-evaluate a little bit.

Thank you all for your encouragement!

General observation: Without the upsetting force of a Napoleonic-style conqueror, the 20th century should prove to be very interesting...

I liked Germania stabilizing, and Krimean independence. It´s the originality I like most when I read your TL. :)

I don´t know if I should criticise, since, well everyone seems to be happy... I´d like more details is all I´ll say, don´t want to be a nagging reader:D

Yeah, I do need a few more details. Problem there is that my knowledge of Victorian history is a bit skimpy, despite devoting hours to Victoria: An Empire Under the Sun. :rolleyes: Not to mention the fact that history has divulged SO much here that I am basically inventing a history at this point with absolutely NO true analog or baseline to go on...

I´m especially interested in how the revolution in Germania could play out, and what kind of republic they put up. It seems like the rebellion has been played out against the king mainly and not the nobility. (Well my guess, since killing all the nobility and there by most scientist and educated elite, you rarely get a working republic system). If so it´s not very much like the French revolution, but you have many others to compare to in Europe´s history.

Indeed, will this be one of the TL´s with a happy ending and without worldwars:) Hope so, I wish this world the best of luck.

Well, all nobility were exiled or killed, but slowly over the years they were repatriated (although they had to be stripped of their right to formally use their title).

Well, there will be a large-scale conflict in the future, but whether or not it will have the same death toll as WWI or WWII is yet to be decided...

This gives me an idea. If the ottomans and the neobyzzies fights in a world war but at different sides and the ottomans lose, the peace conference might give Constantinople to the byzantines to avoid fights over it. "Well, they DID own it once so why not?"

THAT would be funny :D

And what is going on in Sweden? Asking because of my good old nationalist feelings.

Is there some kind of communist movements ITTL?

Is this new Byzantine empire called: New Roman Empire, Byzantium, byzantine Empire? How did a Emperor manage to stay in exhistance for all those years?

It's called the Greek equivalent of "Rome Beyond the Sea". (Anyone?) The Emperor fled Cyprus many years ago, and was provided asylum by Burgundy.

Hmm...But how did the revolution end up with stability? I´m not saying it´s impossible, or ASB or somethin...:) It just makes me wonder how it played out.

The country is stable, although Germania has basically traded international prestige for this stability. A pretty good trade...

All right guys! We'll have an update tommorow, and then that'll be it. Of course, when I get back in mid-August I'm going to have to do some editation, and THEN post it in the Timelines and Scenarios Forum, but yeah I'll basically be done. :D

I've done a quick AH.com Wiki article about this TL. Obviously it eventually needs expanding and separate articles for countries etc...

[shocked]We do have a Wiki?[/shocked] Can you please post a link to it?

As for the timeline I am a little disappointed with 1800-1900 period.
-I have a feeling that it is not detailed enough. For example we do not know what happened to Baltic Union after it collapsed.
-There is very little information about cultural progress, right now the world should be bursting with new styles and trends.
-Surely you could do better than reusing “communism” and “nationalism”. Couldn’t for example Poland evolve from meritocracy into some sort of ultracapitalist-eugenic nation with very small but very competent government interventions [“Neomeritocracy”] ? How about an autocratic regime based on Aggressive Ecumenism with firm belief in having some sort of destiny to fulfill, developed as an response to church losing it’s status during Germanian Revolution [“Pepromenism”] ? Or maybe a form of anarchic-survivalist movement which goal is to ensure that every single city will be self-sufficient in case of “bad stuff happening”, which would lead to forming lots of free cities and small independent states [“Karturbism”] ? There was even a thread somewhere on this subforum dealing with plausible ideologies.
