the Borgia dynasty Kings of Italy Pre tl discussion

Anyway I will continue my other two tl but this tl is about Borgias in power. A character who always intrigued me was Cesare Borgia, I feel he had much potential, so I have come up with an idea. Basically the tl takes place in 1490 The Borgias have been at conflict with the Riorza family who would later put the pope Julius II as Pope. So in this tl what happens is I found out Borgia was Bishop of Pampalona so I decided that Borgia would strike up a close friendship with King Ferdinand II. Lorenzo de Medici was very I'll at this time and three factions were rulin Firenze, the Domincans, The riorzas and of course the Florentines. Basically in this tl Cesare goodies up to Lorenzos son who soon becomes cardinal. The current pope would die like otl and Lorenzos son would cast the final vote making Clement VIII pope. When this happens the The future Julius II will be assasinated by the Borgias. Soon Cesare becomes basically the power behind the Papacy as he influences his father. Soon Borgia uses his wealth to buy of many cardinals. Effectivly this allows the Borgias to take effective control of the Papal states. I will have the medicis get betrayed by Borgia and the Papal states will sieze Florence. With this done Ceare becomes prince of Florence. He then consolidates his grip and prepares to unite Italy. He calls on the aid of his friend Ferdinand who gives him troops from Aragorn, with this he hires mercinaries and with aid from the papal stars Launches an attack on Napoli. Napolii soon crumbles and Borgia annexes Napolii. Then I will have Charles strike a secret deal with Cesare to carve up Northern Italy. So the French invade Milan starting the Italian wars a decade or two late but in this tl the Borgias, Papal states, and France ally to take down the Lombard coalition of Venice and Milan. So Venice and Milan lose and soon Genoa, Mamtua, and Ferrara fall to Cesare Borgia. He then marries his daughter to the prince of Urbino and then he has assasins execute the prince and in such a way Urbino falls intothe Borgias domain. He marries a daughter of Charles to secure French aid. By 1537-1538 the Borgia effectivly control most of Italy. France goes bankrupt and Sells it's possestiins to the Medicis at very high prices, in this manner Borgia becomes the owner of Italy and makes himself the Cesare of Italia by 1542. This is what I have so far and I am wondering what youguys think about it;)

Even Machiavelli thought Cesare Borgia was the more capable prince to unify Italy... Indeed he was very unlucky at a certain point... and i will always support any TL with a early unified Italy. :D

Also, the Borgia were a fascinating family... Some time ago, in the Italian libraries they started to sell a comic (for now they were made two volumes, i don't know if the series is still ongoing) with the reintepretated life of the family designed by a note artist, Milo Manara... I don't put links because the drawings and the story are very... particular ;), so if you are curious search at your risk on the web. :D:D:p:p:D:D:p:p:D:D

I know right that's why I hate Julius ii

Alexander VI was an extremely intelligent and was certainly intent on achieving as immense power as possible. Conquering Italy I think would be possible, however he made a major mistake with his sons. His oldest son Giovanni Borgia was given many secular titles and made a Duke and was expected to become a great ruler. However he was murdered when he was 23, and didn't have the same power drive that Cesare Borgia had. Cesare Borgia always wanted to be a Secular ruler but was instead given a high position in the Church. He ruled as a secular ruler though, and was soon hated by many.

If Giovanni was made a high church official and Cesare was given the secular powers, the role might be reversed. Cesare could marry into a higher house, and likely gain real power in Italy. Giovanni would be a more normal Cardinal and likely not gain the same fear and hatred that Cesare accumulated.
