The Black Day of the Revolution

On December 2, 1956, a group of 81 Cuban revolutionaries landed near Manzanillo, Cuba. Included in this group were Fidel and Raul Castro, Che Guevara, Camilo Cienfuegos, all of whom became key figures in the Cuban Revolution which eventually overthrew dictator Fulgencio Batista in 1959.

Shortly after their landing, however, the group was attacked by the Cuban military, including devastating strikes by the Cuban Air Force. All but 21 of the revolutionaries were killed. The Castros, Guevara, and Cienfuegos were among the survivors.

But what if one of the air strikes had been a bit more effective, and ALL of the revolutionaries had been killed? Could the revolution have continued, led by others? If so, by whom? Would Cuba have been more or less likely to go communist?
