We all know that the Allies' campaign against the Axis in WWII, while ultimately successful, was fraught with numerous problems resulting from strategic (edit: and/or tactical) errors and misjudgments on the part of the Allied command. Looking back on the war as we can with our 20/20 hindsight, what would have been the best Allied strategies (and tactics) for victory against the Axis following the attack on Pearl Harbor? For instance, was the way the US island-hopped across the Pacific an ideal strategy, or was there a better way to do it? How could the invasion of Nazi Europe been better planned and executed? (Market Garden comes to mind as a major strategic/tactical blunder that could have been avoided.) I know this question is a bit vague, so you can discuss overall grand Allied strategy/tactics on all fronts or just focus on a particular botched Allied campaign or battle.
