The Bedouins Dream of Allah (A Saudi Arabian Axis discussion)

Would the Saudis be succesful in a hypothetical Saudi Axis

  • Yes the Saudis would be successful in invading neighbouring areas of the Arabian peninsula

  • No, the Saudis don't have the military, or economy capable of doing so right now. Or something else

  • They'd be successful at taking a few nations, with an okay military, but not a Restored Caliphate.

Is there any way we could fix those problems before the war? Like giving them better industry from Axis funding?
But why? They were already on good relations with the West, and surrounded by British territory. Besides, any German investment, especially military buildup, will not go unnoticed and is easily matched by the Allies. I don’t think even Hitler would consider it a worthwhile use of resources. I can see him trying to convince the Saudis to join during the war for cavalry raids and what not, but I don’t think the Saudis are dumb enough to do so.

Then let's see if we can find a way to get the Saudis as much of a chance in this timeline.

Basic geography (Isolated location, proximity to multiple British possesions along relatively viable routes of defense/counterattack) climatology (Being a desert with no major rivers) and demography (sparse, still highly nomadic and small population) are against them; factors that can't be changed. You don't even have much flexibility in geopolitics either if you want historical alliances. I can't see how one can squeeze blood from a stone, no matter how strong you are

My guess is if the House of Saud would try and betray the Allies, they;d be crushed and a new family would be out in. Maybe the Hashemites would see this as their next big chance and given how they lack the ties to Wahhabism, they'd probably be a better ally in the long run. My guess would be they'd have to make an Israel in exchange for getting all of Arabia and I figure they could live with that as long as some arrangements were made.
