You would get along well with my friend from the Army. He believes anything that smells of conspiracy.
He's an ancient aliens fan too.
I once made up a conspiracy on the spot (can't remember what it was; something about Bikini Atoll) and he now believes it.
i'd hardly rate belief in Ancient Aliens as a conspiracy theory. More like a non-theistic basis for the Intelligent Design model of the origin of life on Earth.

For the record, i DO NOT believe that we've been visited by ET at any time in our existence. As for whether ET exists? Don't know, don't care.

Here's a quick off-the-top-of-my-head conspiracy theory for Bikini Atoll...just made it up myself: It was a way to destroy collected evidence of a visitation by ET to the Nazis. Alien artifacts were found in Eagle's nest when US forces took posesssion of the facility. It proved that Hitler was a hybrid between Extra Terrestrials and humans.;)

Going to back off now so as to not hijack the thread. Appears as if that's already happened from other posters.

That's... surprisingly close to what I pulled out of my ass.

But yeah, on the ancient aliens thing: He thinks that "they" know about them, that there is proof of them, that they have to do with reptilians, and that the earth is really hollow. All at once.

But yeah, good call, I'll leave the thread to serious discussion as well.

Too much could change between Oswald's stinnt in Japan and Kennedy's presidency for this premise to really work. It might be better to have Oswald kill himself while still resident in the USSR.

I'm sorry, SF, but your cryptic comments leave much to be desired. Could you expand on that answer, please, and your earlier response? I'm just not following you here.

When Kennedy ensured the USA became so deeply involved in Saigon politics as to pick the dictator's means of death and which general would succeed him, carrying all this out through its embassy, US involvement in Vietnam was in a spiral where its sole, only option was escalation. There was no way out.

Dear Goddess I must be tired, I read fottage as...something else

WHY GOD. Why would-
anyways.
To contribute, the death of Lee Harvey Oswald would probably just result in a pretty average presidency if JFK survives to 1968. He may handle somethings differently, but Vietnam will be the highlight of his career if he holds it successfully.

That's what I said, although without directly referencing Diem. Even as he tried to keep American involvement at the adviser/Special Forces level, he was being drawn inevitably into a deeper commitment -- unless he decides behind the scenes to write off Vietnam and Laos and make a stand in Cambodia and Thailand. That seems unlikely, if only because it brings out the whole "soft on communism" accusation. Besides, America was still in love with Dr. Tom Dooley and his efforts to help refugees flee from the evil commies during the division of Vietnam in the 1950s. Kennedy, whether he realized it or not, was stuck with South Vietnam.

I suspect an adviser with a Kissinger-esque sense of real politik might have urged him to make the war so painful for the North that it would agree to stop supporting the Viet Cong with men and weapons. But I'm aware of no one in JFK's coterie who would have taken that stance.

What if, in a dive bar in Japan in 1951 Private Lee Harvey Oswald is knifed to death over a hooker.

twelve years later JFK's motorcade cruises through Dealy Plaza unmolested.

What effect does this have on the next fifty years?

In 1951, Lee Harvey Oswald would have been 12 or 13 years old.

The Marines are always looking for a few good men. As for 12 -13 year old boys, well.................IN THE NAVY, YOU CAN SERVE YOUR FELLOW MAN!!!!!! :D IN THE NAVY!!!!!! JOHO:)

Yeah, I noticed that 1951 date as being impossible, also. I mean, why would a 12 year old get in a fight over a hooker? I believe Oswald joined the marines in '56 or '7, and stayed in till about '59 or '60.

As for the grassy knoll business, I have my own ideas, but many on here are ready to eat you alive for even whispering about a conspiracy, so I shall keep mum.

BTW, I suspect that I am one of the few on this board who actually has vivid memories of November 22, 1963.

56-59.

He could have had a worse incident when he shot himself; apparently he shot himself in the elbow. For the purposes of this discussion, he could have shot himself in a worse spot.
Or the ensuing court martial could have led him to be booted from the marines before he had a chance to defect to the USSR.

Good one :D

(Obviously, the conspirators have the resources to acquire some industrial strength butterfly netting... ;):D)

Major Kong in the movie will talk about having a good time in Dallas and not Vegas.
