The Australian Republic

1991, Bob Hawke the Australian Prime Minister for nine years resigned as his challenger Hon. Paul Keating won the Labor Party spill. As Paul Keating entered the Prime Minister-ship High Unemployment and a Stagnant economy we're fresh on the minds of Australians though he was blamed for the Economic woes his Opponent the Fiscally Conservative John Hewson demanded a early election to renew Labor's mandate as the ruling Party. Paul Keating sarcastically replied "I want to do you slowly" and left the Election until 1993, while he was re-organizing the Dismayed Labor Party the Australian Economy took a Sharp downturn resulting in one Million Unemployed the Liberal Leader denounced this as "A million reasons to get rid of Keating". Though Labor won the 1993 Election it did so by a small margin, hoping to force Hewson out the Liberal Party kept him on as leaderstill viewed as Extremely Right-Wing the Liberal Party failed to gain any traction in the polls and went into 1996 on the back foot.

A small Labor victory in 1993? Going the numbers above, 94 seats to 65 seats cant surely be seen as small. The % of the vote is somewhat different, 48.33% to 51.67%, how does that work?

I am not familiar with how it works in terms of Seats but just thought i'd share.

How about there is no Birthday Cake interview, but fears of Fightback! are still the main factor and Keating wins, however he gets just 74 seats, a bare majority, while the Coalition is 3 seats behind. After the Liberals win the Canberra by-election on 25 March, 1995, the government falls, and Keating beats Hewson, who now has a divided party, by a bigger margin, getting around 85 seats, as the economy has recovered.

I always find it ironic that he coined it 'Fight Back' should rather of been called 'Fight against the Working Poor'
