The assassination of the Shah

Well if the Shah is assassinated in 1949, the throne would pass to his brother Prince Ali due to the fact that he had no sons at the time. Making things even better is the fact that Ali already has a son at the time (also named Ali born 1947).

The Tudeh party along with other terrorist organizations are most likely cracked down upon HARD. I'd wager that with the death of the Shah (who was still popular during this time) most Iranians would be willing to lose some freedoms in order to see those who killed the Shah brought to justice.

From the little I've read, Ali seems like a playboy. I seriously doubt he'd interfere with Persia's affairs as much as his brother did. Given the fact that the Shah's assassination would almost certainly mean more security for state officials, Prime Minister Haj-Ali- Razmara might not be assassinated thereby preventing the whole Mossadeq fiasco and allowing Iranian politics to develop along more democratic lines.
