The Assassination Of Franklin D. Roosevelt

In 1933 there was an assassination attempt against Roosevelt by a deranged gunman, Giuseppe Zangara. He hit five people including the Mayor of Chicago. He is famously quoted as saying, "I don't like no peoples."

What if he had succeeded? How would John N. Gardner had faired as President? Would he have run again in 1940 (assuming he gets elected in his own right in 1936?)

OK, this has already been done at least once before, although they got kind of sidetracked... just thought you should know.

Basically, it's doubtful that Garner would have enthused and reassured the public in the same way as FDR did... it's like the difference between Churchill and Attlee, in a way.
