The government of Queensland would still be intact as it seems Brisbane is still there. Wellington is there, Auckland is gone though. So we could have a surviving Australia (based out of Queensland with varying control over the continent) Tasmania will probably spin off into a nation of their own as it seems none of its cities were hit and New Zealand could survive without Auckland.

Looks like Yugoslavia did not get hit. But in the midst of the chaos, the Serbs, Croats, Bosnians and everyone else would go at each other.

The Philippines do not look like te were hit or were they? The US at this time still had some military bases. Also, what about US naval forces after the attacks, were there any rendevious points?

I do not think that tribes of Idaho would hae been able to over run a rump US government. Quite the opposite, they might assist the survivors of Montanna. I see Helena as the beacon for US survivors to get to. There will be all sorts of problems such as food and so forth,

Finally, I have always wondered about a scenerio where the US decides to take the hit and not launch a retalitory strike. The US is screwed but is the world in better shape? The USSR is still nuked by the Chinese, Brits, and French.

Hey, Cleveland is still alive! I'm not dead yet. I may be suffering from a minor case of radiation poisoning, but I haven't been obliterated.

Well, the weather might be slightly worse with the whole Nuclear Winter thing, but now we are now one of the better places in North America to live. How odd.

Seriously though. This seems like a very good timeline. I will be watching for more.

EDIT: Just out of curiosity, did Congress make it to the Greenbrier Hotel Bunker before the strike?

This looks good so far. You probably killed me, but such is life:eek:. Does anyone know how long a place that has been nuked stays radioactive? All I know is that Chernobyl is still radioactive after 25 years-this could have huge impacts on how North America/Europe/Asia is resettled. Also, are there any nukes left unlaunched to be used for a second strike? If they are found by survivors, expect some nuclear fireworks...What happens to the nuclear reactors used for electricity production? Do they melt down after they go for a while without maintenance? There could be a few nuclear explosions on and off for a while after the war.

Gagetown

Hmm the one that missed Loring almost certainly put a hurt on CFB Gagetown in New Brunswick.

I give you a thumbs up for not leaving Halifax, Nova Scotia out. The Sovs couldn't let my current home town go unscathed what with the mgazines, the shipyard and the refinery.

Hurrah

God Bless Irish neutrality. Im still alive.

Any. Question.

One thing I always found odd about Doomsday 1983 was the migration of the British to South Africa. Which is logistically difficult and culturally different.
When the logical thing would be to evacuate to Ireland.
Which;
A) Will still have a functioning Government
B) Is a largely rural nation that exports food
C) Bar all our problems with each other the degree of cultural overlap is quite high

Ireland can sustain a couple of million more people (with great difficulty though). And I assume stabilty can be maintained through the Irish Goverment the Irish Army and the survicing Royal Navy units.

Well Ireland is still going to have issues, the Belfast bombing brings radiation directly to the island, and so will weather currents from Europe.

I wouldn't bet on it. Due to prevailing winds most of the fallout from the attacks on Britain is going to fall on Ireland. Ireland is going to be marginally more habitable than Britain for decades to come

As for how long radioactivity remains dangerous, well the most radioactive isotopes will decay the quickest, the long term danger is from the isotopes which have a long half life and are therefore radioactive at a low level. Whilst after about 5 to 10 years it should be reasonably safe to enter areas that were hit by weapons or fallout for brief periods, it still won't be safe to live there or eat anything grown there

Hm

Perhaps, but thems better odds than most others.

Anyway Im inclined to believe there will great hunger, terror and chaos in the Republic but as long as there is a functioning society most disasters can be faced head on. Im assuming significant deaths, particularily in the east coast but we are helped to a small extent in that the wind tends towards the continent rather than over the island.

My particular concern is the flood of refugees from the UK and remnant UK forces going rogue. The North oddly enough should be stable enough even with Belfast gone - its highly militarised at the time and there were several cross border links between the two sides. Irish military forces are well trained but small in number (I think around 11000 at the time in the Permanent Defence Forces), even mobilising the Reserve forces its still very small so stability of the Irish Government will depend on mobilising further troops and co-opting some British units (I think this is fairly probable for a decent number of units if the UK Government is gone)
