The Arawak or Taino Tribes Kill Christopher Columbus and his Crew (1494)

Point of Divergence … When Columbus arrived in Jamaica in 1494, two years after his initial discovery of the New World, the island was inhabited by over 200 villages of the Taino and Arawak people. Upon his first visit, Columbus explored the coastal region of Juana before returning to Spain. Upon returning to Jamaica in 1503, Columbus’ ships were beached in St Ann’s Bay. Columbus and his crew would be stranded on Jamaica for a year. They survived with the help of the natives, partially because Columbus accurately predicted a lunar eclipse, and Columbus returned to Spain in 1504.

What if the first visit to Jamaica did not go so well? What if the Taino or Arawak decided Columbus and his crew were a threat and killed them on their arrival in 1494? How does this impact history? Does it halt the spread of Spanish Exploration into the New World, or does it inspire Isabella to send more troops to take over Jamaica?

I think your point of divergence needs to be sooner: by the time Columbus was stranded on Jamaica, he had already told the Spanish crown about these incredibly vulnerable people with gold.

Maybe a POD where Caonabo, the Cacique of Maguana who offered the most resistance, succeds in killing Colombus and his crew at Punta Flecha.
