The Arabian War

So, remember the Oil Crisis of 1973? Israel beats up on the Arab nations surrounding it in the Yom Kippur War, and in response King Faisal of Saudi Arabia starts an oil embargo against the west, who support Israel. Well, according to some British sources (see here: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2004/jan/01/uk.past3), President Richard Nixon and the US Government were considering an invasion of Saudi Arabia to combat this embargo. The question? What if they did. What if the USA invaded Saudi Arabia in respone to the oil embargo in 1973? How would the Islamic world react to an attack on their holy land? How would the Saudi's fare? Would they crumble in a week like Saddam, or burrow in and fight for decades on end like the Viet Cong? Would the invasion legitimize the Saudi kingdom in the eyes of other Arab nations? And how would the counterculture in the states react to getting involved in another war just barely after Vietnam? Let me know what you think

Moved to proper forum.

I will take this opportunity to remind one and all that Revenge Fantasies, racism, bigotry, and the like are contrary to Board Policy. Do not get this derailed into current politics, that would be... unfortunate.

Play the ball folks.

I really doubt that the Saudi population and army would be able to much resistance to the Americans outside of the cities, due to the terrain being even too harsch for them. And American sheer material supperiority would basicly mean that city after city would fall untill they surrender. Very few countries would intervene, and Lebanon and Syria, would probably move closer to Turkey and Europe. The subsequent American occupation would possibly cause an early rise of worldwide islamic terror, likely growing the power spheres of Russia and Iran in the future, as there would be no Saudis to compete with. There may however still be a Saddam, as the war with Saudi Arabia would leave a similar bitter taste as the wars in Iraq did, being regarded as unjustified, and having difficulties with the occupation and terrorism. Leaving even more weird developments open, if the U.S. appeases or allies with Saddam, allowing him to annex Kuwait and murder Kurds.
